"WALK to the nearest stairs and leave the building" came over the loud speaker, referring to an alarm and emergency. The third time I heard this, I decided to comply. People were slowly leaving the area.Bummer. I had not been there very long. My first choice machine would not accept money. I was up $400 DDB $ machine. Money in my machine was my first priority. I hit cash out and it reacted so slowly I thought for an instant that electricity might be out. I could not detect any smoke aroma. I was thinking escalator instead of stairs. I was thinking "no one knows I am here" but then thought they would figure it out if I did not return. The Vegas MGM fire of 1980 flashed through my mind, recalling terrifying news photos. 85 died, mostly from smoke inhalation and 650 injured went to the hospital. That was on the present Bally's site. An early morning fire had broken out in The Deli. Approx 5000 were in the hotel and casino at the time.I asked a security guard handling money at a redemption machine if the announcement was for real. "Do you see us leaving?" he asked with a smile. I fled back to my machine. The scare was over and under investigation.Every time I saw an employee, I asked about what caused that alarm. Three were unaware there was an alarm. One said it was probably a smoke detector in error. One said the personnel were supposed to escort people out if there was an emergency. "Do you see any of us running?"Okay, no biggie, but admit it revved up my adrenalin!Shortly after 9 11 there was a similar alarm sounded in Vegas at the Stratosphere. "Everyone quit playing and stay where you are" came that announcement.Everyone froze in place and just stared at each other in silence. Creepy! Eventually, they announced it was a false alarm. Whew!

Glad everything turned out OK.

We have caught the same thing twice in land based casinos and checked with staff and then stayed alert but continued playing.

Both Lake Charles casinos are river boats although Lauberge du Lac is just permanent building on concrete pilings over the water to comply with the "on the water" requirement. Lauberge dul Lac frequently announces and conducts fire drills to meet Coast Guard requirements but each time it makes us wonder what would happen if practice became reality.

MM, I remember at the old Showboat (late in it's life) that alarms went off on a regular basis. Everyone ignored them.

MM, my last couple of trips to Vegas, the fire alarms went off at both Harrah's and Mirage while I was there. My trips did coincide with something in town, like the Cowboy Xmas, and the staff said that always happens when they have events like that.

Thanks for your input brmcc74, LL, SM and billyjoe. One person thought the alarm was a test. I'll pseudo ignore the next alarm I hear. On occasion, our smoke detector sets off a false alarm...we hate when that happens! Those Ocean flicks were fun or rather Danny Ocean was cool, as in George. We have been in Vegas during rodeo week in December and that strip takes on a different complexion! One can blend in wearing denim.
