Let's say you had to put $500 through a machine in 10 minutes and then you had to stop. $500 coin-in.
 
This is a fantasy setup so you HAVE to choose between two options:
 
What would you prefer... a multi-hand machine (like 100 play) at a lower denomination or a high denomination machine with fewer hands (assuming equal pay tables)?
 
Obviously on the high denomination machine, you have a chance at the bigger win... on the 100 play machine you can still win big on a dealt hand but otherwise your returns will probably be slower (I think). The nothing hands will cost you big either way.
 
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" answer on this... I'm just curious what people would pick.
 
So the questions are:
 
1) Which would YOU choose to play on?
 
Then if you want to get into the details...
 
2) Is the expected return in the two different scenarios the same with this limited budget and timeline?
 
3) If you continued to play with your winnings on the chosen machine, which situation would give you the highest odds of going broke the soonest? Obviously you could end up a winner in both setups but I'm wondering what your chances of crashing and burning are compared to each other.

Depends on which strategy I was playing. If it was CD's FTT frolic thru town or straight up wild hunches. Also if I had enough gas money for the scooter to ride into the desert nite on. Also if I detected a pattern in a machine and if I could claim that the Celtics won the NBA because of me etc etc.
So my answer is it depends on alot of things. Mainly my discipline and my degree soberity.
And no one could watch me play cause I always hit the aces with a kicker very quick.

If it can be assumed that the paytables are equal, I'd go for the single hand game at the higher denomination.  I, like you said, think the ER on both multi line and single line would be the same.  I'm not sure about the variance as I normally do not play multi line and am not "up" on the format.  But I am comfortable playing single line, so I'm sure that is where you would find me.

I would play the higher denomination....no more than 3 play.

From a bankroll perspecitive the multi-play is lower variance as you get more hands for each dollar invested. However, it partly depends on the paytable. With a <100% paytable your chances of coming out ahead are better on the single play. One or two lucky hands can make a big difference. Of course, this also means your chances or coming out way behind are better as well.

I would be playing single play hopefully with a $25 wild deuces and hit a four deuces with an ace on the first dealt hand! Oh this is just fanasty right dang it!

Depending on the game if the game was DB or DBB I would play the 100 play at say 50 cents or a dollar hoping to see more possible high pay hands with the obvious very high risk of ruin  to do so .If JOB I would play the 5 dollar max bet of 25  single hands .

ten play $1.oo tple dble. thats my game if it were not my money.

$5 Single Line DDB I could burn through $500 in less than a minute and be gone.  Now if I had to leave after 10 minutes I would play $2 Bonus Poker to avoid the possible hand pay so I wouldn't be late.

back in the 70's when we would stop by an atlantic city casino,on our way to ft.bragg,ft.benning;then norfolk,va.,and mayport ,florida,from vacation,we would leave kids in car on sidewalk,couldn't afford 50 cent parking fee,so we could put 20 bucks in vp machine.now i know they were a waste of time,and figure the larger 1.00 and up to be more time worthy.
