The second semester of video poker classes for the 2017 calendar year will begin on August 2nd.

It will be held every Wednesday afternoon for 10 weeks in the Silverado Lounge at the SouthPoint Casino.

Notable Changes from the 1st Semester 2017 Schedule

- Quick Quads will be based on 8/5 Bonus Poker
- Ultimate X will be based on 9/6 Double Double Bonus
- Advanced 9/6 Jacks or Better course is scheduled for later and not the first week. Perhaps it will be broken into Beginner and Intermediate for the first week and Advanced for the seventh week
- New Advanced course for 9/6 Bonus Poker Deluxe

From the words I heard from Mr. Munchkin on Gambling With An Edge podcast and from billryan here on this site, the turnout has been high. Must be a reason for it.

I feel recreational players have the most to gain on the Ultimate X course. What they get out of it might be better than what they do on their own for 8/5 or 9/5 DDB Ultimate X.

   Just a lot of suckers who sit thru the class for free instead of getting their advice here.
The classes I got the most out of were NSUD, Quick Quads and the Guide of Slot Clubs which was replaced this time by Secrets of A Video Poker Winner.

Thanks for the heads up about the Slot Clubs Guide as I did not spot the difference. Secrets of a Video Poker Winner does sound like a more interesting topic.

I was wondering if you remember any, the toughest forms of questions that get asked to Mr. Dancer during the seminar or if there is any mention of 8/5 Bonus Poker in any of the Jacks or Better classes. I know the Winners Guide for Jacks or Better covers 8/5 Bonus Poker based on what the cover states.

Bob generally doesn't take questions that aren't related to what he is teaching. He stays after class to discuss things with anyone that has questions.
There was one class that was sparsely attended and when we finished early he kind of led us in a roundtable shooting the breeze.
I didn't attend the advanced 9/6 class as I had a 4 pm appointment in Henderson and would only have caught the first few minutes. In the Beginners class, I think he noted that the strategy at that level was very similar but not certain.

I appreciate what you have shared. Learning Jacks or Better well is the foundation for learning strategy so I would see that more time was scheduled for it on the first week with the advanced coming later on at week 7.

I believe the two high cards versus the three to the straight flush situations will take the longest to grasp and will require much practice on software to get used to it. Pretty much homework for the students.

I think the Bonus Deluxe class might be worth a look if you have not already, or even the advanced class. It builds mostly on Jacks or Better with a few subtle differences. Southpoint is one of the rare places that has 9/6 Bonus Deluxe, but at most places the 8/6 Bonus Deluxe might be the solid play and the same strategy is used despite the 1 credit reduction in full house.

I've never looked at 9/6 Bonus Deluxe.
Despite Florida Phil's constant misrepresentations, I am not a VP pro, just a serious student of the game.

It is good to look at 9/6 Bonus Deluxe if you have the time. I should have mentioned that I am speaking for myself when I say that 8/6 Bonus Deluxe is a viable option, I can play just enough at a certain place as a Vegas visitor on the strip to get worthwhile comps.

I know Webman requested we do not talk about FP on this part of the forum, but since it is not negative will bring it up anyhow.

It is completely understandable about FP misrepresentations about yourself, as players are categorized as either (1) recreational players who have leaks/holes in their game and will lose or (2) the elite players like Mr. Dancer is.

The biggest issue I have is that there is no middle ground to FP where people like yourself can fit in. I just want to strive to be an intermediate player of the game, trying to do better than what FP's idea of "recreational" players are doing.

I treat gambling like a part time job. I work about twenty hours a week at it and am rewarded nicely most weeks. Many casino promos exist that can be exploited with just a little bit of work. Evidently, some people are offended when a player schedules his play around a casinos promos. They feel they should play whenever the impulse hit them.   I get $20 Free Play from a local casino. It so happens that Thursday is a day where 100 dollars played gets you a free bottle of liquor and its also half price day for 55 and over in their coffee shop. A really good cheeseburger platter is $4.50 today.
Maybe I felt like playing here yesterday, but playing today gives me a better advantage. Same game, same free play, just one day is much more EV+ than the other.
Another casino has a daily BJ tournament. It's ten dollars to enter and the prize pool is divided between the top three players, minus $10 to tip the dealers.
On Tuesday, entering the tournament gets you a free lunch and a $5 MP coupon for the next day. I don't enter it often, but when I do it's generally on a Tuesday.
Rather than trying to play longer and lose less, I try to play smarter and win more.
Some folks just don't get it.
