October Contest: Super Times Pay!

Post by Webman »

It's time for our 2009 Halloween Contest featuring an all time favorite, Super Times Pay Poker.
For
those who haven't played, Super Times Pay is one of the most fun and
popular games to have been invented in the last decade. It is a 6 coin
per line game where the 6th coin qualifies the player for a random
multiplier that ranges from 2x to 10x and occurs roughly every 15
hands.
During the contest, the member with the highest points wins 3 nights at the beautiful MGM Signature in Las Vegas!
Plus, we'll send VideoPoker.com merchandise packages to our top five point runners up, and to the lucky player who gets the 13th best score! As an added incentive, we'll also send a package to the top 5 members that get the highest number
of winning hands in a single 200 hand session. These packages will
include a button-down shirt or T-shirt, a golf cap, and some other
goodies. You can preview some of these items at the VideoPoker.com store.
The
contest starts on Friday, October 23, and ends on Halloween night.Play Now!

I wanted to play some last night, but once it got dark outside the game got too scary to play:

Ha-ha-ha, Ha-ha-ha, Bwah-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha!

Anyone have bleeding fingers yet?  I need to mention that I've been asked by the site people to monitor the contest and notify them of anyone who I think has been playing too long.  Offenders will be required to send me all of their Halloween candy.

Sorta guilty here. It's noon here and I just got home from a fun morning OUT, leaving at 6:30 AM to swim. I just realized I have been logged on to VP.com for over 12 hours since I thought I had signed OUT. This set a new record for me. HONESTLY, I really do not want ANYONE to think I played contest ALL NIGHT LONG like an addict! Surely, none of you could relate!

I have played all of the contests since you started them and even though this is my game (Super Times Pay), I am really disappointed in the payout.  I have played this game in a lot of casinos and the payout has been much better.  When you play 600 hands and out of that only hit on 200 of them, something is wrong.  And the hits are so small.  The game is too tight.  I know a few have hit big, but it would be much more fun if the rest of us could just get 4 of a kind or even 3 of a kind once in a while.  To play that many games and only have 2000 points is pretty sad.  I have played in casinos all over the country and I hope you will take my complaining serious.  I have heard lots of others complaining on the tight payout also.  I enjoy playing on line and hope to continue.  Right now it is no fun. Thanks.   Judy

I wouldn't worry about it too much, GJ.  With the total hands being played by all players, some are going to hit RFs and RFs with multipliers sooner than others.  I'm still waiting on my first.  With an average of 40K hands between RFs and 600 hands per session, that works out to about one RF every 66 sessions.  Some players will finish the contest at a better rate than that, some worse.

Maybe in future contests the end-of-session screen could show the overall rate that RFs, Aces, and quads in general are being hit in the contest.  Then we'd know everything was on the up-and-up.  Hm, WM?

Great work on the game graphics and sounds :)  I still can't figure out if when you hit the 2X he is going "boo" to scare you or "boo" because its only a 2x multiplier when we'd all like to see a 10.  I think I've "Boo'd" a few times in real play when I get the 2.
I don't know if I'm the only person who has this problem but I frequently find myself accidently hitting the "rules" link which is just below the "deal" link, then the new window pops up and I have to close it.  If I'm not the only one who does this, and if it isn't a big deal to change, perhaps it might make sense to have the CONTEST FAQ   LEADERBOARD   CONTEST RULES links could be on the left side of the contest screen instead of the right.

Tanqueray says, "she doesn't want to get too picky" but while she was eating her breakfast and reading two chapters of a book while waiting for the contest to load, she noticed this at the top of the Contest Screen.  " You are in currently in CONTEST MODE".

To play that many games and only have 2000 points is pretty sad.Gj, If you have scored only 2000 or lower many times, that would really be unusual if you are playing anything close to a regular non-tournament strategy that tries to maximize value on each hand, which I understand is your point.  I'd think that scores this low would happen less than 1 time in 10,000 regardless of which game you were playing. If you really meant somewhere in the 2000's instead of 2000 or lower, then it wouldn't be that unusual.  DDB will be less than 3000 about 1 time in 8; DB about 2 times in 17; Deuces Wild about 1 time in 29; and Jacks or Better about 1 time in 58.  Of course, if you are going after only quads or royals on every hand, that changes the odds somewhat.I've played a few games using a strategy that's more aggressive towards royals and quads than usual and haven't really been that lucky (no game over 5700), but I still have had 8 games with more than 4000 points.  I haven't kept track of the lower-scoring games, so I don't really know if I've had more low-scoring games than I'd expect.  When my luck is running low, it often seems that something out of the ordinary is happening.I think this game really has a much bigger spread than a lot of the other contests between those who hit the miracle hands and those who don't because of the necessity to marry up a multiplier with a rare hand.  Those in the current top 10 have hit either a 4x to 10x Royal, an 8x or 10x Quad Aces with Kicker on DDB, or a 5x dealt Quad Aces with one of the 3 hands hitting the Kicker. With this game you will get zero multipliers that are 8x or 10x on your 200 hands quite often (about 26% of the time), so it's highly unusual to be able to get both a high multiplier and a rare hand at the same time.Dealt quad aces are actually quite a bit rarer than royals when playing triple-play, happening only 1 time in 54,000+ hands (or 270+ 200-hand games).  One quarter of these hands will have the kicker dealt, but of those that are not dealt, 41% of them will also hit no kickers on the draw, meaning you will get quad aces with a kicker off of dealt quad aces only about one time in 78,000+ hands (or 390+ 200-hand games).  Finally factor in that you will get a 5x, 8x, or 10x multiplier less than 1 hand in 44 and the odds become a bit less than 3.5 million to one of getting a dealt quad hand (or 17,000+ 200-hand games) that will help you "make the board."  And there are no strategy changes that will make this any more likely.Even though it's unlikely for any one of us to make the board, I expect that each of us should have just as much chance as anyone else playing these games.  Good luck at getting the double miracle before the end of the month.
