Re: panic??
You got that right. Have two friends that grew up in the Bronx/Queens. Same time period. My wife, a tiny peanut of a thing did her student teaching in the late 60’s in the projects in inner city Ct. I don’t know how she it, but somehow she got those 15 year old 8 th graders who towered over her to follow the rules at least while she was there. My guess is they were in awe over this little Irish spitfire and maybe also because she never acted like she was any better of a person than they were.

My gambling money should be clean, hasn't been touched since March 16th.olds442jetaway wrote: ↑Mon Mar 30, 2020 7:39 pmI can understand poor people lining up at the schools to get free lunches for their kids, but for the life of me cannot understand why officials have not spaced the lines. Night after night I see on tv people lined up inches apart. The ones handing out the lunches are wearing gloves, but somebody is missing the big picture. Some more disturbing news today that I have been trying to convince family and friends of for 3 weeks. The experts now say the virus in the droplets in the air can live 3 hours or more depending on humidity, wind, etc. Duh!!!! No kidding. Ever drive behind a car that had smokers in it. Even with your windows closed, your vent system draws their exhaled smoke right into your lungs. Just my opinion, but I think this is how some of the community spread happens. Some of those infected had no contact at all with other people. I think the experts are missing the power of air currents, the wind and humidity conditions, and a few other things. The virus is so small, that hitching a ride in someone’s droplet one could equate to a speck of dust in an Olympic suze swimming pool.

really interesting and disturbing news today at the WH presser.
-the good news-some areas of the country have been following government mandates and slowing down the virus spread.
-the bad news-it doesn't matter, thousands are going to die, over the next couple of weeks.
PLEASE everyone, for the next 2-3 weeks;
-if you are older-stay away from EVERYONE
-if you have underlying serious health conditions, stay away from everyone
-if you are older and have kids/grandkids, tell them you have left the planet and will see them in a month
-if you are older, have underlying health problems, clean you house, lock the doors and don't let anybody in.
both fauci and birx stated the next 2-3 weeks will be the worst. their estimates are that under a 'best case' scenario, 100-250,000 will DIE. that is their best case.
ted, be careful!
good luck everyone.

I don't think anyone, including Dr. Fauci really knows what the final death toll will be. We are dealing with the great unknown. A British "expert" predicted 2 million deaths in the USA and 500,000 in the UK, then changed his UK prediction to 20,000 after considering social distancing. I think Dr. Fauci's estimates for the USA are a little high, but understand why he is putting them out there. The numbers don't jive with today's number which is a little over 4,000 and the fact they say this will peak in 10 days-2 weeks. If that is true, I don't see how we get to 100,000-250,000. I'm certainly not an expert, but these facts don't seem to correlate.

CAR, totally agree with the great unknown part.
Particularly puzzling to me is the fact that during yearly flu season viruses float around the country, claiming 20-60,000 lives, large numbers of cases, and we go about our business and it somehow runs it's course. No social distancing,no shut-down required.
Obviously this virus is different. I have seen conflicting data about spread methods, infection rates, mortality rates, which i guess is part of the great unknown.
But SARS, MERS, and EBOLA, were different also. However they did not infect the WHOLE WORLD!
WTH is going on here?

Could this be a Chinese Germ warfare experiment gone bad? I doubt it, but who knows.

of course, no one knows the exact number of deaths. but, one prediction/forecast that has not changed from the beginning and has been proved true, is the most vulnerable group. that is why i directed my warning/caution to OLDER folks, especially those with underlying problems. for the next 2-3 weeks, they should cut themselves off from everyone.
if one examines what happened in other countries and what has happened in nyc, the hospitalizations started slow and suddenly began doubling every couple of days. in other countries, the same thing then happened with deaths.
i do think that what fauci and birx have hinted at and are reluctant to state is the the majority of the deaths, just like the hospitalizations are going to take place in the most dense locations, the cities. coumo, at his presser today, said there was one county in nys w/out the virus, and he said that is how it will play out. rural america will not see anything like what will happen in overcrowded, densely populated locations.

seventy college students from univ of texas austin, chartered a plane for spring break to mexico. now, ten days later, at least 28 of them are testing positive for covid 19. no doubt they having spreading the virus since their return. austin, is known as a very liberal place, with a very liberal college. the best and the brightest...sure.
aren't these the same age group that tells the rest of us not to use fossil fuels, be 'woke' in our concern for everyone, how smart and aware they are and how us older folks should listen to them.
where did they get the money to charter a plane, their parents no doubt. don't private planes leave a larger carbon footprint? if they are so 'woke', informed and smart, why did they go on spring break and likely party together in groups? how selfish are they now that they have likely passed this virus on to so many more innocent folks, maybe including their parents, siblings and grandparents...so thoughtful.
almost half have all covid 19 cases in austin have occurred between ages 20-40. now, they have infected others, put a burden on the healthcare system...nice!
