Most VP machines manufactured after 2001 come with a whole range and host of USER DEFINED settings contained on set up menus.  What no one wants to believe but which make a lot of sense is that among these tables are settings where the casino CAN modify or alter the results from the RNG.  I am not saying they neccesarily DO, but they CAN do this....thats the question being asked, is it POSSIBLE.  Of course it is possible.... Now why does this make sense?  Simple, first the casino may actually want to pitch and promote different, or promotional games where the likelihood of getting a royal is greater than the usual probability, and as long as they actually divulge such a modification to the players it is actually ok to do this in most gaming markets.  it wouldnt be legal to mess with the results and NOT tell us before we play, but doesnt mean it cant or doesnt happen.   Second, what is it that you think the gaming commision(s) actually look at or check when they look at VP machines?  Obviously they dont crack the things open and micro-examine the chips or oodles of code.  They look at MENU settings for a quick and easy check to make sure all is kosher, including the probabilities.  They MIGHT, if they are suspicious or if they have nothing better to do, hook up a laptop and run a program of half a million hands in about 5 minutes and see if the results jive with expected ranges, but rarely do they have such time and resources to check, as the Nevada gaming commision is spread pretty thin these days.  Dont ask about the New Jersey commisih, they are lucky they even still have one and it hasnt been folded into the state police.

The only 'modifiable' results-oriented options that I am aware of are in certain slot machines that are used in tournaments. These are able to be set to have a greater number of the higher-paying combinations during a tournament than they would have during normal play. Altering the ability of a VP machine to select or not select certain winning combinations is illegal - pure and simple.

it sure is.....if they dont disclose it to players.  again, doesnt mean it isnt possible or has never happened. I recall in 2002 a promotion at the Orleans in vegas, they had 2 VP machines with a number of 4X4 pickup trucks available for anyone getting Quad 4s ....and in the fine print was a blurb about how the two machines, which looked and acted like ordinary VP machines, were set to deal quad 4s at a rate that was about 1/8 the probability of normal four of a kinds.   I'm sure there have been many such promotions and games along the way..... Relax folks, I still have faith that the vast majority of machines I have played have been on the level.
