The "Greed Chip" strikes again

Post by spxChrome »

So at my local casino behind the bank of progressives I play are a bank of old slant tops at the 01, .05, .10 & .25 level. I know because they are always full and they drive me nuts because people are always hitting AWAK, Royals or other 800's playing .10 sometimes even 1 penny at a time or 1 nickel while the bank of $1 machines we play have been dead for a while now.

Well about 3 months ago they switched them from penny and nickels to .25,.50 & $1. And they continue to hit great hands several AWAK and Royals still after they raised the denom to higher levels. It was the buzz everyone says play these they are hitting good because we normally don't play them because they were only penny, nickel, dime machines.

Then about 2 weeks ago I went in to play because these machines were playing consistent like the old days. You know 1 quad every 400-500 hands or so... And I noticed they were all closed down and they were working on them 1 at a time. Knowing the Slot Att. I asked what he was doing and he said they were told to change the computer chip out.

Once they came back up I noticed no difference in the paytables still 10/6 DDB and 9/7 TDB. But you guessed it. They are dead now for the past 2 weeks after the chip change. I have played them and my friends played them and you may get lucky to hit a 250 after $1000 into them just like the new machines.

Awful news. At least you got confirmation from the actual slot attendant that you were not crazy. And with the newly deceased machines you can actually get some peace and quiet at your nearby progressive bank.

The machines we have played for years have not been the same in recent times. These are older machines, not new ones. My wife asks rhetorically, I don't know what they have done to them but things are not the same. My feeling exactly. I wonder if there is a legal loophole regarding the RNG that casinos can exploit.

The new 'chips' are faster, with more re-seeding in the RNG generated sequencing. Still the same random numbers, but when you consider that there are far more 'bad' hands to be selected than 'good' hands, the opportunity to land on a 'bad' hand seems more likely.

Speed of a chip has nothing to do with it. All the hands cycled though without being played don't matter. What matters is if the machine gives you a random and equally probable deck or it doesn't when you actually do hit the buttons. Most jurisdictions legally obligate this random, equally probable deck. In the numerous states whose regulations I've read, I have yet to read a loophole. I will admit New Jersey is one of the closest due to poor wording.

All this being said, I can't say with certainty they aren't breaking laws.

This last trip to Tunica...Old machines and new machines seemed fairly balanced in the short term. I generally did better on nickels than quarters, so therefore I lost.

The great debate I hit AWAK 3 times one morning - and then next time go all day without a measly quad. Are they fixing the machines, or am I just lucky/unlucky? I'm afraid we may never know.

Do YOU have a better theory as to why VP machines seem to play and feel 'different' today?

I wonder if there is a legal loophole regarding the RNG that casinos can exploit.

I think that pre-draw they are still random as per regulations after that I think they have found a loop hole. It seems the only way to get a paid hand (800+ on DDB) is to have it dealt.

Just look around at some of the social media sites like insta. Search VP photos and you will notice a majority of the premium hands are made hands these days. I'm talking at the $1 level and up max bet. You will see plenty of .05 or .25 and even some 1 or 2 credit bets at $1 and up that fill a draw. But a large majority of the $1 and up max bet 800 credits+ are dealt hands. Royals are the only exception but AWAKs or the little ones with the kicker are dealt.

Its my experience that post flop the machines are controlled by a payback % nowadays. I have played close to 30,000 hands at Harrahs properties alone this year with nothing but rag quads and 2 400s (I log all my quads). I have had 3 hands pays and two were dealt AWAK on DDB and 22224 on TDB and 1 10x quad Kings on UX.

My quad Aces compared to a rag quad like 8s is:

Aces = 34
8s = 108

Makes no sense since I hold Aces many more times than 8's even breaking full house with Trip Aces.

Last year was the same way, I finished with:

82 Quad Aces
220 Quad 8's

Back before 2010 the count was much more even

128 Quad Aces
120 - Quad 8's
