I haven't been in a while, but I found that every time I was dealt a flush with 4 to the Royal I would hit the Royal.  I have never lost the flush.  I either get the flush again or the Royal.

My favorite win was when my husband and I had to get up at 4 a.m.  After a long day we got back to the casino and played.  My husband got tired and told me he was going to the room.  I told him I was tired also, but I was on a good machine.  It was about 11 p.m. and I was exhausted.  Around 2 a.m. I could barely see the cards and was just holding crazy stuff.  But I'd still win.   I was racking up the credits, but was getting sick, I was so tired.  Around 3 a.m., it dealt me a flush with 4 to the royal.  I threw the odd card away and up popped the card needed for the Royal.  All of a sudden I wasn't the least bit tired.  After I collected my winnings, I played a few more hands and cashed out the credits, I went up to the room and bounced on the bed until my husband woke up.  He asked how I did and I told him, as he got up to go to the bathroom, that I cashed out over 800 credits.  While he was in the bathroom, I spread the rest of the cash out over the bed.  As he went to climb back into bed, the look on his face was priceless.  I left $1200 with him (it was a progressive), and I took 2 hundred and went back down to the casino - who could sleep, I was too wound up.

My wife is jinxed for royals I think! She hasn`t had one on casino play ever! I watched her draw to 4 to the royal on a 100 play  and not hit I! We have a trip upcoming so I`m hoping it all evens out! When she`s happy I`m happy! As for my self I`ve had  at least 12 on various denomination machines!

I have had 2 RFs in the past year not counting the one I accidently threw away as it was dealt to me and I got so excited that I accidently hit  the wrong button on the unfamiliar machine and instead of holding the card, I hit the draw button...............boo hoo for me.

Think you're mistaken.  Dealt royals get held automatically and begin to pay out.  I'm pretty sure you couldn't have thrown it away.

Be patient and a royal will come some time. Whatever you do don't play just to get a royal flush (holding 2 of a royal over a pair, etc.) Play the odds on each hand and in time you will get a deal that leads to a royal flush.

I have had 14 royal flushes in the last 3 years.   First one was at about 1:00 a.m.  at Harvey's Lake Tahoe.   I was with my husband, Mom and her friend.  They all went to bed and about 15 minutes after they left I had 4 to Royal and connected.   I was playing very little VP at that time with no idea about perfect play etc.   The second one was at Harrah's Lake Tahoe about 6 months later.  I was standing at the machine and put in $5 while waiting for my Mom to finish playing a slot machine.    A guy came by and said that was my last play.  I said yeah I only put in $5.  I had to put in money to play it off when I got a hand pay.

When I hit the third one, I was becoming more skilled at playing.  The other 2 were $.25 and this one was $1.   Was really much more thrilling having that $4000 counted out to me.  This was at Harrah's Laughlin.   Next trip to Laughlin, I got 2 $.25.   I got 1 at Hard Rock Vegas $.25, Harrah's $.25 and Bally's .25.

I got  2 more $1 in Laughlin the last this past May and again on my last play.  I got a check this time since it was the last night and I was leaving at 6:30 in the morning.  In July I got 3 $.25 at Lake Tahoe.   One was at Harvey's and the other 2 were at Horizon on a 3 play DW machine within about 10 min of each other.   I see on VP Free that they have removed these machines.  That figures.  My most recent was $.25 in Laughlin Oct. 5.

My husband has not gone on that many trips and is getting better at playing VP, but has not gotten a royal yet.  Hopefully, he will get his when I get a bad streak.

Eduardo, you need to get a good software program and practice.  Every game has a different strategy.   I have been a lot more successful since I have been using Bob Dancer's program as well as his strategy cards and books.  I also have all of Jean Scotts books most recent Frugal Video Poker.
Good luck I hope you get some royals soon!

In her post above, "lovevp" mentioned that on one of her hand pays she received a check instead of cash.

This is a very important function of winners, and some vp players do not realize this option exists.

A check cannot be reinserted into the machine. On any handpay at $2K or above, I demand a check, regardless of the time of day. Some casinos whine and fudge about this because one of the reasons they like to pay you in cash right there at the machine is to keep the excitement alive so you will start stuffing your hundred dollar bills back into the machine. A check, however, is much more difficult to spend on the spot.

There is a trick I use which also helps me with my poor discipline. When they hand you the check, right there on the spot immediately endorse it in ink as follows "For deposit only to (NAME OF YOUR BANK) by (YOUR NAME)." When you do this, the check becomes non-negotiable other than as a deposit into your bank account. This not only safeguards the check, but it also prevents you from cashing it at the casino in a moment of weakness.

Several casinos have tried to force cash on me instead of a check by telling me it will take a while (no problem, I'm not going anywhere), or they can't write a check this time of night, and I will need to come back tomorrow. All you have to do if they make it hard to get a check is invoke the name of the state gaming commission if you are in Nevada, Louisiana, Mississippi, or New Jersey. (I am not sure about other states.) In these four starts, handpays must be paid in cash or valid check at the discretion of the payee (you). If they give you any problem at all, tell them you are going to report them to the state gaming commission and ask them to notify security to earmark the tape. This will immediately get their attention and you will get your check, I promise.

Finally, if you do get cash and you want to save it, not spend it in the machines, in each of the four states listed above casinos are required to offer "safekeeping accounts." You can go to the cashier and deposit cash into a safekeeping account and they will give you a receipt. The receipt is good for a year in Nevada (not sure the time length in the other states.) Then when you get ready to leave, withdraw your cash and walk directly to the exit without stopping!

I have made a pretty good haul on VP over the past decade or so, and it would not have been possible without finding ways to circumvent my poor discipline. Once I beat the casino's odds, I need to take my winnings and get out. This is one of the methods I use.
