Re: My Journey on Video Poker
Glad you could stomach the $100 hourly loss. $50 is my limit, and that's stretching it.
Playing max coin quarters and limiting losses to $50 per hour is pretty hard some days. $100 an hour happens all too often for my taste. I'm seriously thinking about playing some stupid penny slots instead of feeding the video poker negative ATM all day. Video poker has been good to me in recent years, but it has a nasty habit of turning on you just when you think you have all the answers.

+20... .25c 10/6 ddb...
Another 3 hr approx. grind. Turned out a bit better this time, mostly thanks to a last minute 22232 hit. Hit a decent amount of quads for the 3 hr, just not the right ones and a few periods of misses.
To address the hourly loss rate, it's one way to measure, but not a great way to measure results imo. It's long term, multiple sessions, month after month measurement for me. If I looked at it by a session by session hourly rate, I'd go crazy. Yah, the losses are a bummer...but can't have losses without wins, and vice versa. I look at it month by month because at some point, we all have to take stock on how we are doing. Oct was a losing month, jul, August, sep. were winning months, etc.
how do I stomache losses? By remembering it's a long term proposition, the believe that the golden hit is around the corner, and remembering my previous wins and being careful to keep within the budget. Yes, sometimes in the real bad sessions I do feel like an atm for the casino, but on the good sessions, I feel the casino is the atm for me. So it goes both ways I guess.
Cheers
Ps this session hourly rate was $6.67
just contradicted myself. Isn't life full of contradictions?
Pps I surely don't feel like I have all the answers, but Dancer does. But vp can be humbling sometimes for sure. I was on a crazy run in August and thought maybe I figured something out, but then a session or two comes and the machine reminds me "hey buddy, you don't know your a&@ from a hole in the ground." And I'm like, oh, okay, well, tomorrow is another opportunity to choke you and kick your teeth in and get revenge on your dumb video random number generator a$&. Well...at least that's how I see it sometimes...maybe not so violently...on second thought, never mind. Apologies for the rambling. I'm tired and when I'm tired, sometimes I ramble on...sing my song...on my way (led Zeppelin)

+100... .25c 10/6 DDB...It was a 4 hour war between me and the machine tonight...a brutal grind. Was about to give up way down, tired, and bleary eyed when I took the flop we all like to see, AAAA4. Carefully kept the cards and took another bottom of the 9th home run for the save. Getting tired of these bottom of the 9th saves, but whatever, a plus is a plus. As Yogi said, it's not over till it's over.

-400, $1 triple play 8/5 BP, +870 .50/.25 10/6 DDB...Total for the day=+470I decided to be stupid at the beginning of the day. Local casino had a promo of 300 pts to get a thanksgiving platter. Decided to take my $400 and play $1 triple play BP...a game I had no business playing with so little bankroll. My thinking was I can stay about even, be quick in and out, and get the 300 pts, get the platter, and walk out the door, bang boom. Well, bang boom indeed. The $9 platter ended up costing me $400 because once in a while I have to be dumb. I reached 300 pts about $100 down and decided I didn't want to leave $100 down, I wanted to leave even. ha ha, poker gods had the last laugh...yet they had mercy on me....Later in the night, I decided to take my frustrations out at .50c 10/6 DDB and if I was able to win back all or most of the money I lost, would go to my normal .25c 10/6 DDB and grind just like any other session. Well...within the first 25 hands or so, was able to get A2222 for $400 and was able to get even for the day. Thanks be to the poker gods. Glad I didn't have to pay $400 for a $9 plate, I went to .25c 10/6 DDB...but the poker gods weren't done yet as they gave me a few more good quads and as I was about to call it a night, hit another quad aces with kicker, AA2AA. So what can I say, even a blind squirrel gets an acorn once in a while. Lesson for today is, play your normal game and denomination for promos like these, don't try to be clever. Cheers

Yes, even a blind squirrel gets a nut when he sticks to his guns. Congratulations on your hits. Are you playing the optimum plays at Fiesta or Sam's?
