Re: My Journey on Video Poker
Dan, Why not play NSUD for .50 or dollars? Better return and pretty low volatility.

At the casino I play at, nsud gives no bonus points nor full points. With all that together, the ER on BP is pushed to about 99.7, nearly the same as nsud. But doesn't matter, back to 100.06 ddb for me. Next pot shot whenever it is, may take your advice anyway and forgo BP altogether. But will need to win back the recent losses and then some before I do that, and no telling when or if that will be for the rest of November.

Whatever you choose, good luck. Look forward to seeing positive trip reports.

Car, I heard somebody giving advice at the casino say, "Win a little each trip." It's okay to be just a bit in the black, but staying out of the red was paramount for them. It keeps you in a positive frame of mind the next trip, I would think.

Yes. The full timers have plenty of opportunity to get ahead. We need to actively control the red ink.

***Final Post of the Thread***-700... .25c/.50c 10/6 DDB...I'm taking some time off. Not sure how much, but I need a break. It's been an interesting experiment to share my results, my ups and downs, with all of you in video poker land. But as I said from the first post, when I eventually make the decision to stop, it stops. And I decided to stop now and free myself to pursue other interests. At any rate, if there is any lessons I and we can take away from this thread, I believe there are a few:1. Set a budget and stick to it.2. If taking pot shots at a higher denomination, do not stretch your budget for it. For example, you hit a $1,000 royal on quarters, and want to play $1 whatever with $250 of it. If you lose the $250, stop. It will be difficult to do so...especially if you get a few wins with $1. After hitting a $4,000 royal on dollars, I can tell you hitting a $1,000 royal on quarters suddenly doesn't look so big. It can be dangerous to win at bigger stakes sometimes...because even a $4,000 royal isn't a significant bankroll to start playing $1 VP, yet alot of us think it is. (Dancer suggests a 3-5 Royal rule for whatever denomination your playing. That's single line too, not multi-line!)3. Gamble with money you have saved for the trip or money that is not related to living expenses. Don't mix the two if you can.4. If you have to hide your vp gambling from your significant other, time to self-check yourself and ask what is more important in life.5. If your raking up alot of losses, take a break. Take a month off, or a week, or a year, whatever. However long it takes to have a clear head and a healthy financial coming back. Enjoy it, shouldn't be drudgery. Trust me, I know.5. Don't worry, be happy. So that's about it. I'll still be poking my head around on this site but this thread is closed for me as far as I'm concerned. If somebody else gets the itch to start something similiar, I'll more than likely follow along and even offer advice if I can.Hey, we made 18 pages worth. That is certainly something. So, as Dancer says, go out and hit lots of royal flushes. As I say, hit lot's of quads. Fair winds and following seas.Cheers

DM it's been interesting following your exploits. I was going to offer you the same advice, about throttling down a bit, but I know some people take a dim view of advice so I refrained.
You are not the first member of our community here to take a breather so: catch up on things that need to be caught up on; read some books; go hiking; enjoy that which brings you pleasure, video poker can wait.
Good luck to you sir.
Ted
Edited to add: Some of the best advice comes from the least likely of sources. ---No, I did not read that in a fortune cookie.

Playing video poker as a hobby is just as enjoyable if you are playing single coin quarters or max coin dollars. It all just a game and winning and losing is in your head. No one is going to win all the time and most of use will lose over the long term. Enjoying yourself is the ultimate goal and playing for less is worth the effort. If you're a recreational player and can't have fun unless you have a chance at a big jackpot, you should consider finding something else to do with your time and money. Good luck!

I'd abandon VP too if I lost $1900 in the last three sessions! Those were some hefty minuses he racked up. Dasvidaniya indeed. As we say, the odds catch up. The most I'd ever lose in that span is $190, and I'd be flummoxed. If you want a chance at a big jackpot, you can just throw $5 a week or even every day at the lottery. Higher odds, but much more convenient and much less expensive.
