Re: Most unbelievable video poker stories
While staying at Harrah's Las Vegas in March of 1999 it was late and I was playing $1.00 single line DDB. I hit 4 aces without a kicker and it triggered a hopper pay. The coins started spilling out and stopped; the hopper was empty. While the slot attendant was refilling the hopper I stuck a Benjamin into the machine next to it and 2 hands later I was dealt quad aces. Held the 4 aces and hit draw, out popped a 4 for a nice 2k handpay. The slot attendant just looked at me and I commented that I shouldn't have to wait long for a slot attendant to show up.

At Harrah's AC one night late I saw a guy playing 25 dollar single line DDB. There were some hand pays 10/20k which were impressive, but about an hour later I heard the sound. I turned around to look and he had caught a Royal for 100k. No emotion, and his comment was some nights I'm up a hundred, some nights I'm down a hundred.
About a half hour later I caught a Royal on a 4x for 16k. Crazy.

I also was recently dealt THREE TENS on Super Triple Play three play, and got four of a kind on each hand.
$500 x 3.
Only time I've ever seen that in terms of hitting each four of a kind. Although, I wasn't that impressed, as I think it should happen a hell of a lot more often!

MT1716, you are absolutely correct. It was Treasure Bay, not Treasure Chest.
Yes, Phil, it looked like an old pirate's ship. I owned a tract of family property near Waveland at the time, and two weeks after Katrina I toured the Mississippi coast. Treasure Bay was destroyed, and several other floating casinos in both Gulfport and Biloxi were pushed all the way up onto or even past US 90, the beach highway.
At the time of Katrina, Mississippi law required casinos to actually be on the water. Following the hurricane, the law was changed so that casinos could be built on land within a certain distance of a body of water. Some of the newer ones or rebuilt ones are now on land, but there are still some major floaters, such as IP in Biloxi. The attitude down there seems to be that a hurricane like Katrina could never happen again.
The area where my property was located (in Hancock County) had plenty of homes before the hurricane. Following the hurricane there was not a single surviving home for blocks. Some have rebuilt, but 12 years after Katrina there are still plenty of empty lots.
I bought a house down there last year in Ocean Springs.
Great place, but I found the casinos there just FLEECED me. I rarely won on video poker. I ended up actually banning myself from all Mississippi casinos it was so bad -- and the gaming board there seems good about enforcing that.
I've never had THAT BAD of a casino gambling experience. I don't know if they are hard up for cash or if I was unlucky. Oh well.
Other than that, pretty place. I ended up selling the house and moving to Colorado, but I have generally fond feelings for Mississippi and the coast there.

I have been fortunate to get 2 royal flushes on the monthly game. Whenever possible, I hold 3 to the royal (discarding a winning pair) Very exciting when they hit.

Unfortunately, after Katrina they cut the VP odds back so bad that we vowed never to return. On top of that there's the insane Mississippi 3% tax on hand pays. The Florida casinos have captured most of their former local customers. Their hotel comps are true comps without any added fees or taxes and the points system is generous. The odds aren't Vegas, but they are reasonably priced entertainment. I can't imagine being desperate enough to gamble at the Beau Rivage, especially with the number of options currently available.

Here's one for you...My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and we decided to go to the casino for dinner. I was playing powerhouse poker for just a nickel and had no luck at all. My wife asked me if I minded if she played. I said not at all and she took over from me this time playing with quarters. $7.50 a hand is too rich for my blood. Anyway, not kidding, first hand AAAA2 dealt to her!!! The machine locked up and flashed hand pay $6000!!! Need less to say, an anniversary we won't soon forget!

A couple months ago I was playing 5 play $.20 triple double bonus and was dealt 4 Aces. Held the Aces and did not get a single kicker. It was a hand pay and after I got my $800.00 I was dealt another quad Aces on the very next hand. I held the Aces and got one kicker. I have never ever been dealt quad Aces back to back before but was very happy to see it. I took my money and left for the day. This was at the Casino del Sol in Tucson, AZ.

It's 1 in 12,978 to pull off the draw. At least you noted it. The one time I saw a neighbor do it (the only time I have ever seen it), he totally was in "the zone" and didn't even flinch over it.
