Re: My Journey on Video Poker
Losing is part of this game. How you deal with it is a matter of personal choice. You can control it on a session basis by playing less money or less time or you can forge ahead letting the odds work themselves out over time, but there is no way to eliminate it entirely. You have to lose sometime so you can win sometime. Everyone's playing style and preferences are primarily based on how you deal with this issue. I play deuces wild because I don't like to suffer through long periods of losing. I cash out often to limit my loses on a session basis. This has nothing to do with my actual returns, it's all about my tolerance for losing which is very low. Bob Dancer says losing $40K doesn't bother him. I doubt that, but he has faith in his strategy and that keeps him going. Do whatever works for you.

I go with what I intend to spend. I also have a limit set on my bank account for how much I can withdraw in cash per day from an ATM. With any luck I don't need to use it. Of course the goal is to win a sizable jackpot and the smaller wins are just a means to get me there. If I double my initial BR I usually leave unless I just got there. Then I will put the original amount away somewhere and start over with the winnings. Sure, going home busted stinks but I went in knowing what I was willing to risk. If the game plays well enough to keep me going for a long session without a big win I still leave satisfied busted or not. I got my moneys worth of entertainment and earned point/comps. What really stinks is when the game just robs you and your BR is gone in an instant. You know the sessions when it's like 8 garbage hands then a jacks or better, 6 garbage then JOB, 10 garbage...JOB, repeat until busted.
Anyway, Taking the family to Dinner and a play tonight in PA. Staying overnight not to far from Mount Airy casino so will head over in the wee hours. Wish me luck and Good Luck to you all.

Great awareness! I recognize that pattern for sure. If I see over five consecutive GARBAGE hands, I should damn well move. It's a money pit bankroll killer. Invariably, JOB will be the next hand, to provide some phony artificial respite for the suckers. Off to chase my RF. Lock box on hand; double duty as my phone coaster. Look for my elated or irate post in my dedicated thread.

.25c DDB, another loser, similiar to last session, -$380. Nothing to see here, move along
Seriously though, can't seem to hit the side of a barn right now. In the chute right now for sure...need to get on the latter!
Cheers
PS as per the discussions, I'm thinking of a comment I made earlier that I will put to someone wanting to play VP either as a hobby, recreationally, p/t or f/t income...how strong is your stomache?

Squeezed out a plus tonight on .25c 10/6 DDB.
Didn't start all that great. Started with $400 and dropped slowly down to a bit under $100 and was ready to accept another flogging from the VP gods...when to my surprise the quads started coming...hit quad aces, deuces, and threes, no kickers...plus a sprinkling of others turned tonight into +$145.
I'll take it and suit up to fight another day.
Cheers

Another saved session. Those $400 BRs sure buy a lot of entertainment! My BRs buy misery 90% of the time.

Another weird session of .25c 10/6 DDB...
Usually if I hit two quad aces with or without kickers in a session, it will be a positive one. Not this time. Hit two quad aces no kicker, but nothing else. -$398. Played about 3300 hands...
Did hit a quad 6 and a quad 8, but not enough. Was never up, pretty dry. Oh well, I guess the VP gods aren't done flogging me yet.
Cheers

Poor entertainment value at -$130 per hour, twice my usual disaster. But hey, risky game!
