Re: My Journey on Video Poker
It takes a lot of discipline to play VP and be a winner overall. That is what makes Dancer different than most. You have to resist the urges to chase losses. Let the winning hands come to you instead you you chasing the winners.

+90... .25c fpdw.... My first session back at fpdw was a real grind as I predicted. Fortunately was able to hang in there for the quad deuces. My approximation was it took about 4900 hands to hit it, which is statistically average. Only brought $260 with me and at one point was down to $80, but mostly was in the $150-200 range just see-sawing for what felt like eternity but was really about 4 hours. So yap, back to the grind.CheersP.S. Well put case. Sometimes it seems I have to remind myself not to chase losses by chasing losses and thereby reminding me it's a bad idea to chase losses

Glad to see the success. $22 gain per hour is nothing to sneeze at in a 25 variance game. I usually make half that per hour betting about 2.5 quarters per hand on 19.5 variance JOB. I've been wanting to pull the trigger on switching to DW, but haven't made the mental leap yet. Just stuck in my comfort zone.

But in AC, what is the best deuces option available? 98.91%? I feel like one of the bigger appeals of deuces is the availability of strong paybacks in certain areas. I like deuces much more than I should...it treats me like crap at the quarter level.

-200.. .25c fpdw...It could of been worse, should of been better, but is what it is. One quad deuce, hit on the second buy-in after losing the first buy-in of $300. May the vp gods be kinder on the next go around.Cheers

So I would be giving up 0.6% vs. my tried and true JOB. That four deuce thousand coin reward is the carrot, as Phil emphasizes. If the quarter play is that lackluster, it may not be worth it. I should do an hour before the year is out just to get a taste for myself. If i walk into a quad deuces, I may get addicted.

I've always had much better luck playing VP in Vegas than on the East Coast or South.

Most deuces play is treading water waiting for a quad deuce or a royal. Quad deuces happen frequently enough (1 in 5,000 hands). If you can play a lot of hands you can expect to see quite a few. If you can only play a couple of hours once in a while, they can seem quite rare. Personally, I don't get that excited about hitting one at the quarter level. What really does it for me is when I switch to $1s and hit one for $1,000. I know this could cause me to lose more in the long run, but they are potentially more common than a quarter royal flush and a $1,000 jackpot is such a kick for me it's worth the risk. I can't stomach the swings of playing at the $1 level all the time, so I have to take a shot when I have an opportunity. I'm playing for recreation only, so I'm always weighing the benefits of risk vs. fun.
