Great story and thanks for helping that girl out. Have seen people play at the bar deuces wild and not hold the deuces...just blows my mind. Your playing nickels, max bet next time so u get paid $200 for the Royal and get a Better return if u can.
Cheers

Believe it or not, this bank of nickel machines pays 800 for just one nickel bet on the Royal. It is only on the spin poker option, but on really low budget days or practice runs, I just play the center line. I have posted before about this bank of machines. I know of no other casino in the country that pays 800 for bet 1. There may be a few, but nobody has written back that they have found any. Another option would be to play all 9 lines for a total of 45 cents and have a greater shot at the Royal, but then the variance goes up quite a bit. Another nice thing about this bank is that it allows up to 10 units bet. Another way I have beaten this machine is to play regular Deuces Wild with bet 1 on all 9 lines. When I am down 200 credits which is what the 4 Deuces pays, I go to bet 2. Get down another 200 credits and bet 3 per line and so forth. Any time I have been able to control myself and not change the denomination up, I have done OK. The problem is greed sets in sometimes and you think you will beat the machine at the ten cent or quarter level too which gets much more expensive. Usually, one will run out of time, money or both playing at the higher level. The paytable is also lousy, so long term it is a definite loser. If I remember it is in the 96% range at 25/16/13/4/3/2/1. Edited to add, by expensive, I mean really expensive. Playing all 9 lines on this machine at the quarter level with bet 10 per line costs a whopping $ 22.50 per spin. Even at the ten cent level the cost to play this way is 9 bucks a spin, and at the nickel level with all 9 lines play at bet 10 it is still 4.50 a hand. I have done it and regretted it every time since you get wiped out in just a few minutes on a cold cycle.

I realize it cost more to play all 9 lines, but don't you reduce variance with more lines played?

Not if you're betting 9 times more money for those 9 lines.

Now betting 1 line at 9 nickels vs. 9 lines at one nickel each (assuming same paytable for both), then 9 lines would yield a lower variance.

At a nickel a line though, I gotta bet three lines minimum here (more likely 5 to 9), I have seen quite a few top and bottom misses in Spin Poker which is frustrating, but I'm not devoted enough to physically cover the top and bottom lines.

I have seen those top and bottom misses as well. I want to make out of oaktag or construction paper a cutout that will cover the entire screen except the center line. That way, I don't get distracted and it will be like playing a single line game. I'm afraid though that in 5 minutes or less, security would descend on my innocent gizmo thinking I was pulling something and who knows what will happen then.

I hear you, I've dropped from $2 and $5 denomination down to only $1 denom and I'm still losing as much as ever. I haven't played in a couple of weeks and may be done for the year if not for good. I've managed to play over 60K hands of $1 denomination TDB without a single handpay.I feel bad for you king you seem like a player that wants to play but tired of getting killed over and over. Been there done that.I have been seeing the poker machines here in the Michigan casino where I play go empty. There was a bank of machines where people would sit in chairs behind them waiting for people to leave. They are 20 coin machines that play .05/.25/$1. I hit many royals on them 2 years ago. Today you can walk up to them any time, empty. Even on a busy day they might fill up but no one stays long. I don't play them much, when I do its the same ol song and dance, dud after dud. Lowering your bet can only help losses, it don't change the way the machines deal cards.

Back from an overnight session at Mohegan Sun. Unfortunately, I played Fla Phil's method and dropped two hundred because the deuces just couldn't be bought. I had a few scrap tickets left that added up to about four bucks.
I went over to the cheapest vp machine I could find which was a two cent spin poker machine with very poor paytables. Joker Kings was 20/5 and that is what I settled for. The Royal with less than 5 in pays 500 for 1 on this machine.
I put in the little scrap tickets and set the machine for 3 lines betting 1 per line thinking about what vman and wildman had recently posted about seeing the missed hits on the top and bottom lines. I played back and forth for a few minutes and still had two bucks left in credits. I then got dealt 4 to the Royal in clubs and drew the missing black King on the top line. That paid me a whopping 500 two cent credits. Oh well, enough to top off the tank on the way home. I just can't seem to buy a Royal this year or last when I bet anywhere to a buck and a quarter to ten bucks a hand even after playing at that high level for ten hours or more non stop session after session. Also just a side note. When the tiny Royal above hit, I didn't even have my player's card in. Didn't want to wreck my average bet which somehow gets factored in on free play etc.
