Pot Shots Anyone?

Re: Pot Shots Anyone?

Post by olds442jetaway »

If we are mostly playing for fun and the once in awhile home run, I can recall a couple of Ted Williams, Big Poppy, Mantle, and Maris out of the parkers. I actually saw Ted hit one out of the park at Fenway when I was 3 and still remember it well. By far, my best were last years 18k hits in the same day. There have been several between 7k and 10k over the last couple of years, and my favorite was back in 2001 playing a DDS machine at Mohegan Sun. Sat down and my first hand was a dealt Royal for 5k playing 5 quarters on 6's or better game. That was nearly a 700k to one shot.
My next session to celebrate my upcoming 69th birthday in a few days is going to be all pot shots so to speak, but my bankroll will be cut in half to 500 bucks. It is like a pot shot and Martingale clone combined. I already know it is going to be feast or famine.
I am going to start playing regular deuces wild on a regular deuces wild machine. I will begin by playing 5 nickels. This machine lets you bet up to 40 nickels. Every time I lose just 2 consecutive hands, I am upping my bet by one unit and anytime I hit anything more than my money back I am backing my bet down by 2 units. It I am fortunate enough to get all the way up to 40 units, I will switch to a 98.91 quarter machine starting with bet 5 quarters. Should that work itself all the way up to the max bet of 25 quarters, I will start all over again with bet 5 on a fifty cent machine. If by some miracle, I haven't lost the bankroll and my bet gets to 25 halves, I will switch to bet 5 and play the same way on a dollar machine. Of course what I hope to do is hit enough small stuff to keep me playing and then get lucky and hit quad deuces or even a Royal with a big bet in. Just as an aside.....Within 4 days either side of my birthday since I have been playing vp around 25 years or so, I have always hit a nice hand pay the best of course being 36k last year. Will report what happens. If any of the gang happens to be there around my birthday, I will post what wild tropical shirt and cargo shorts I will be wearing in case you want to say hello or grad a beer etc. Good luck and health all. PS....the one time I met up with Phil, we both had similar tropical shirts on the same color if I remember. That was funny and we found each other easily.

You guys got the right idea. ONLY play machines that allow .25/.50/1.00 maneuverability! You want the flexibility to switch gears. In AC, Caesars is so damn regimented. The bank of quarters and dollar min machines. I simply cannot abide this bifurcation any longer. Nice plush casino, but it's driving me nuts. I must resolve to play at Bally's, environment be damned.

Good to hear from you FAA. Just don't do anything at the expense of health. Have you ever tried one of those personal air purifiers you wear around your neck. They may help a bit with the smoke. Smoke aside, I still have to hold myself back from getting into it with so many A hole patrons. Sometimes the smoke in my face sets me off with them and sometimes its other things. Thats why I like to play so much in the middle of the night and that works out well with my dads situation anyway. Some nights everything is fine and other nights its like A hole city. I'm not afraid of anything or anyone even at my age, the trouble is if you get into it with any of them, everyone gets banned and or arrested. So far so good been able to avoid that, but boy is it tough sometimes just to step back and think about the consequences. All kidding aside, the smoke blown or drifting into your face is the number one thing that sets me off. Especially cigars. I can forgive the occasional spilled drink on you or your machine even try and ignore the younger set with every other word they say both boys and girls is the f word and especially if they are sitting right next to you. I also need a little help from above ignoring the maniacs on the road both coming and going to the casino. That is a whole other story in itself. BMWs of course and what I call the lowered and tricked out Hondas being the worst culprits. OK....I've vented enough now. Saved me from taking another blood pressure pill. Hee Hee.

Olds, my environmental point is much more basic than you presume. Namely, Bally's is a dump compared to Caesars. Plus the accompanying undesirable clientele. But the machines allow for a high degree of autonomy. Worth the nuisances, especially as I start before noon. Enjoy that 800:1 racket you preside over up there.

No it's not Bill.
I am a smoker so it doesn't bother me but some of the cigar's are quite offensive even to me.

I get what you guy's are saying but I don't intentionally blow smoke towards any one but it goes their way on it's own sometimes . I try to pick end machines for different reasons but 1 of them is so my ashtray isn't under anyone else's nose. It is the smoking section however so I get annoyed with people who feel the need to harass me because I am smoking in an area that I am permitted to. Especially when they sit next to me knowing that I am smoking and there are other machines on the bank farther from me. I realize that the game they want to play may not be offered in the non-smoking areas but they should take that up with the casino not me.
I too play in the early morning hours to avoid the crowds and the annoyances that come with it. Many patrons, smoking and non-smoking, have annoying behavior's or habits that I do my best to ignore or avoid. One of the worst things for me which will many times be bad enough for me to leave is the colognes and perfumes some where. I have many allergies and am very sensitive to certain smells, chemicals, extracts or whatever it is. Some people chose to bath in the stuff I think, lol. Anyhow they are my allergies/sensitivities and there isn't a "No Fragrance" section anywhere so it is my burden to bear. I don't verbally attack the person wearing the stuff or intentionally blow smoke there way to "get even" if you will. I either deal with it or move. They are permitted to where it, they and others obviously like the fragrance so nothing good would come from and nothing would change if I were to start a confrontation over it.

Didn't they ban smoking in casinos about ten years ago? Could have sworn they did.

Back from the trip and luckily no unruly patrons and the smoke blew away from me where I played. Unfortunately, the machines I like are in the smoking section. At any rate, things worked out pretty well. I stuck to what I posted below and the machine was cold and let me past the nickel quarter, and fifty cent max bets and I still had 200 of my 500 budget left. I chose the spin poker dollar machine because of the 800 for 1 on the Royal for just bet one and played the center line only. Right away, I hit a wild Royal for 25 bucks and another one for 50 bucks then 5 of a kind for 40 bucks so I had a little extra ammo. At the dollar level, I decided to wait for 3 consecutive losses instead of 2 due to the expense. Anyway, after an hour more or so of play, I hit 5 aces at bet 2 good for 160 bucks. The machine turned cold after that and my bets got up to 7 bucks. I just got lucky and got dealt 3 deuces and drew the 4th. That was good for a 1400 hand pay and kept my birthday week tradition going. There was a partial downside. I didnt have the Mrs. or a friend with me to make me stop playing so I wasted 400 of the hand pay but already had my 500 budget replaced intact so I finally cashed out plus a grand for the trip. It should have been 1400 to the plus side, but a partial discipline failure let me down. Or it could have been that 4th beer I had and I rarely do that when playing. Boy did they taste good going down though. Sam Adams Boston Lager. I wonder if Vman likes that one. So thats the story gang. Back to basics next trip which will actually be tomorrow evening. My sister and nephew are in from California and I got them a room at Mohegan, but the wife and I are staying at Foxwoods. They wouldn't comp the second room which I guess is quite common. Oh well their loss since we will hang with my sister and nephew for the evening, have dinner etc. maybe take in a show if there is one. Then the wife will head over to Foxwoods and we will play over there probably a good part of the night. Good luck and health to all....Olds.....
