I like olds, he truly seems like a genuinely good hearted soul. I'm extremely happy for his last minute recovery from an otherwise typically lousy, barren session. But he said it himself...."Don't try this at home or on your own" (so to speak)...chasing losses with more and more, increasingly reckless betting using money you had not originally planned on betting, will kill you in the long run. Olds definitely knows this, and I think we can all see that olds is still "in control" of himself and his gambling and doesn't have "a problem"...

But for other people, this is precisely how you know they have A PROBLEM, when they repeatedly do stuff like this....so just be cool and watch out, have predetermined goals or objectives when playing and stick to them. Never bet more money than you intended, more money than you can afford, or money that you need, or could allocate, for something more important.

That being said....Olds, are you planning on hitting the MGM-Springfield when it opens the third week in August???

How do you know when you have a gambling problem?  When it causes you a problem.   Hopefully you find out before your lawyer or your banker calls.

Yeah the martingale (or variants of it like Olds does), is one of the scariest ways to gamble if you ask me. 95%+ of the time everything is just great, but that really cold, cruel session...it will cost Olds thousands. I hope that doesn't happen. But with the amount he plays, it's happened before, and eventually will happen again. I just hope he has less than his fair share of those days.

Most of us have lived for a while now.  I have had my share of hobbies.  I also tend to get very involved in those hobbies.  Some would say I have been obsessive.  Whether it was race cars, fishing, airplanes, boats or video poker, I always wanted to immerse myself fully in each one.   The problem with video poker was the regret.  I didn't make money in any of my hobbies, but I always felt I got something for my efforts.  When gambling, all I ever got was bad memories and guilt.   Eventually, my gambling got to the point where it became a burden both mentally and financially.  Neither my lawyer or my banker called, but in my heart I knew it wasn't right for me.To rid myself of this burden, I forced myself to play single coin quarter VP for two years.  With a hundred dollar bill, I could now play 400 hands instead of 20.   In time I found I enjoyed the game more and actually made a small profit.   To this day I never take an ATM card into a casino.   When I eventually switched to max coin quarters, a $1,000 jackpot seemed like a million dollars.  I am OK with what I am doing now and have no regrets. I am not on this forum to judge or teach anyone.  I am here to tell other players what happens when I play.  I try to be as honest as I can.  I see things differently than some members.  What I see is a computer game, not a way of life.   For me, video poker is an entertaining diversion and nothing more.  Unfortunately, VP has a dark side.  You can tell yourself losses don't matter and this won't happen to you.  You can convince yourself you are guaranteed to win because of math.  You may even create your own strategy that works for a time. Sooner or later you will have to deal with it in your own way.  It comes with the territory.

Yeah, no flat betting. I don't flat bet quarters or dollars. I'm all over the place. But losing $50 an hour on any dollar machine is really quite manageable! He should have left after the eight bumpy hours and licked his wounds. He's lucky he didn't get the -$800 result.
No RF penalty is really not as big a deal as you guys insist. Damn thing never comes around anyway!

DB...definitely going to hit the new casino. Another half hour ride more than Mohegan, but no 95 to deal with either. Will stay in touch on that.

Royals for me are so infrequent for me, I just forget about them for the most part. I do like that 98.8 pay table though on the Bonus Deuces Wild game with the 800 for bet 1 for the Royal. As we all know any dollar game can get expensive fast especially when varying bets up and down.
