In my view, the claimed correlation between positive VP odds and positive results is questionable. It is a fact that playing better games allows you to play more hands with the same money. Jackpots occur at random. They are not exclusive to better games or absent from poor games. I realize my beliefs on this matter cause some people discomfort, possibly anger toward me. They should realize that my opinion is not the law and they can believe whatever they want. I am explaining why I choose to play quarters, not sell you on anything.
Think about this before you respond. In the book "Million Dollar Video Poker" the author and his wife claim to have won a million dollars in six months playing video poker. I have studied this book in detail and have no reason to doubt this claim. The author also claims they chose to play this game because they had a mathematical advantage. I do not doubt this either.
Do you believe their six month results would have been any less noteworthy if the game they played was negative? In the game of video poker, your results are largely determined by the quantity and quality of royal flush jackpots. These jackpots are rare. One or more of these either way could have changed their results significantly. Remember, one of their jackpots was $400,000.
If the game they played was negative, would this book have ever been written?
Playing the best VP games accurately is a good thing. It gives you more chances at a jackpot. It does not guarantee you will have a positive result any more than playing bad games forces you to lose. When you play video poker, you are gambling. Your short term and long outcome is not "guaranteed". If you are aware of this fact, you can make wise decisions on how much you are willing to risk. Whatever that amount is, you should be prepared for all eventualities. I choose to play quarter VP because I know from experience that good games can go bad and I do not wish to take that risk.

Could you possibly outline, in 200 words or less, why you believe that?FloridaPhil wrote: ↑Tue Dec 11, 2018 4:22 amIn my view, the claimed correlation between positive VP odds and positive results is questionable.

I agree. But if they did, would their results have been any different?onemoretry wrote: ↑Tue Dec 11, 2018 7:42 amProbably not - since they wouldn't have been playing it.FloridaPhil wrote: ↑Tue Dec 11, 2018 4:22 amIf the game they played was negative, would this book have ever been written?

Great. I hope you don't. Do you believe playing only positive VP games guarantees you win long term?onemoretry wrote: ↑Tue Dec 11, 2018 10:35 amShort term - yes, long term - no.FloridaPhil wrote: ↑Tue Dec 11, 2018 10:03 amHave you ever played a positive VP game and lost? Ten words.

How many times does it take for folks to emphasize to you that there are no guarantees for it to sink in?

My two cents. There are no guarantees in life. Regarding positive/negative games, there are no guarantees, however, though if you play millions of hands with computer perfect play you most likely will have better results playing positive games. For me, over my lifetime, I haven't played near that many hands. I wonder how many others also have not played that many hands. As a recreational player, I don't keep any records so I couldn't factually tell you how I have done regarding various paytables. I suspect most recreational players don't keep those kind of records as well.FloridaPhil wrote: ↑Tue Dec 11, 2018 11:01 amGreat. I hope you don't. You asked me to explain in as few words as possible why I believe the correlation between positive VP odds and positive results is questionable. If there are no guarantees, then there is always a chance your results will be negative. You may say you are comfortable with that chance. Any chance is too great for me to risk betting bigger than quarters.onemoretry wrote: ↑Tue Dec 11, 2018 11:57 amHow many times does it take for folks to emphasize to you that there are no guarantees for it to sink in?
The issue I have with some VP experts is they say, "If you play positive VP games, over time good things will happen". This sounds like a guarantee to me and it ignores the real possibility that you could lose.
If they said "If you play positive VP games, over time good things are more likely to happen", I would be OK with that statement. There is a significant difference between those two statements.
