Why do people think they can make money playing VP

The lighter side... playing for entertainment, less concerned about "the math."

Good point. You probably saw my post the other day about the light night where 3 of my neighbors hit Royals. I was only playing a quarter or two on DDS. I am working on just what you said and doing a little better.

it is common practice to ask for proof from anyone who is trying to sell someone something. consumer reports offers us assistance.

why is it when those who try to sell the idea money can be won playing VP, instead offer statistical probabilities as proof, and expect that to be enough?

and b/t/w, I listing below my tax records of the past 5 years, that show positive gambling returns........

NONE!

Unless you are born a Leprechaun, IMO is is virtually impossible if one plays the number of hours I or some of us do. Short term yes definitely one can win. Even I can. But at a million plus hands a year year after year, I say no way unless one can play that sine curve by luck just about perfectly. Timing, luck, and perfect play is everything in this game with timing and luck IMO trumping the perfect play. Perfect play long term again IMO will just make one a small to moderate loser. Freebies, comps, etc. not included of course.

seems to me there are enough posters on this site, who advocate one can make money, in the current conditions of VP. why not just post their last 12 months net results?

Sure, right after you post your tax returns for the past three years.
a little sensitive on this subject? never asked for tax returns.

I have posted all my trip results dating back over the past year.

I have no problem stating I have lost money, others have also done so, including DB and olds.

among those who seem the most reluctant to do so, are those who claim one can make money.
If I were a VP pro and stated I won X dollars Y years in a row, would you accept that or would you want evidence?

if someone told you the had an investment that had a particular return that seemed unlikely, would you want proof?

Seriously?
I'm at dinner with someone and they tell me they made X amount of money last year selling widgets. I'm supposed to ask for proof?

do you believe everything you are told?

I am sure it is theoretically possible for a human to run one mile under 3 minutes, I want proof before I believe it.

Have you ever stopped to think that the people doing it simply don't care what you believe and have nothing to prove to you or anyone?

someone sure is sensitive.

I find it ironic that the very same people who demand accuracy and proof if someone makes claims that the machines are not treating them right, seem to think proof should not be required when claims of long term success are questioned.

If you hit a jackpot big enough, you can claim to be a winner for a very long time.  You may even stretch your claim over 10 or 20 years or more.  Selling strategies that save players money and/or tell them how to play better and get more out of the game is a good thing.  Inferring that the game can be beat by a learned strategy coupled with wagering bigger and bigger amounts is where I have a problem.
