Re: Coronavirus and Casinos
Must ride out my ruinous green bloodbath. Only 15 month average for event driven down market to recoup. Fingers crossed.

I know that the government is discouraging people from buying surgical masks because they want them available for medical professionals. That is certainly understandable. I also know that I have now heard from more than one doctor that a mask can significantly reduce the chance of infecting yourself by touching a contaminated surface and then inadvertently touching your nose or mouth.onemoretry wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2020 6:35 amPerhaps the people not wearing surgical masks have been influenced by the comments of numerous people in the medical field who indicate that wearing one is not very effective in preventing others from infecting you?
According to what I've read, and heard, the purpose of a surgical mask is to prevent you from infecting others. And, the fact that they are being gobbled up by the general population means that there is now a shortage, and the medical people who really need them are having difficulty acquiring them.
I am not personally wearing a mask, but I don't think people who do are being foolish.

i am torn between not wanting to succumb to the fear/hype from the media while not being stupid and not listening to the medical experts. my cardiologists office has boxes of masks available for patients, that where i got mine from. i ONLY wear it at the casino and only when within a short distance of others or when it is crowded. i am no infectious disease expert, but if i were in my 20-50's and healthy, i wouldn't care at all.
i just read an article about what is taking place in italy. their lives have changed and not for the better. much of the country is shut down and restrictions on all kinds of activities. the article mentions an example of a couple and daughter who went out to eat at one of the few restaurants that were open. only allowed 2 people to sit at a table, so the 3rd had to sit at a separate table, six feat away, mandatory separation. if we are smart and practice some precautionary measures, maybe we can avoid some of the harshest restrictions that other countries are imposing.
we have all heard by now that approx 95% of our country's consumption of antibiotics, comes from china. and, a chinese government official recently threatened to withhold exporting these meds to the usa, under certain conditions. this is beyond stupid, that a country that we have disputes with, controls that much of a vital product that we depend on. we certainly would not allow ANY other country to have control of our military defense products.
wake up congress and all those who are opposed to some forms of nationalism.

That is precisely how I feel. We were poised to pull the trigger on a Tahoe-Vegas-Laughlin trip for late April-early May, but have now decided to hold off for at least a couple of weeks before doing anything about it (or not).
One positive thing about the coronavirus situation is that I've not heard a word about the "climate change crisis" for at least several days now.

It is only a matter of time until someone blames Climate Change for the coronavirus. They have already blamed Trump. Tune in to CNN for more fake news.onemoretry wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2020 9:24 amOne positive thing about the coronavirus situation is that I've not heard a word about the "climate change crisis" for at least several days now.

Well it is now affecting us (Bobbi and I). We were just put out of work until March 30th possibly longer. Luckily we are not sick and hope it stays that way.

Dumbwit Democrat Governor here declared state of emergency in NV yesterday (before the National declaration today). Because he couldn't pretend any longer that the tourism mattered more, even though it does to him. Heck, his daughter got a plush job with the VGK hockey team, thanks daddy.
Now, the Result: Long lines at grocery store and gas stations. Lots of folks out of work, such as T Mobile arena employees (ushers, vendors, security staff).
MGM buffets closed, so those employees either reassigned jobs or out of work.
When your economy is built on tourism, and conventions cancelled, March Madness cancelled, hockey season postponed (for now, probably cancelled in 2 weeks) . . . well, there we go.
Meanwhile, Sports Books faced with refunding March Madness bets. Other bets, like on hockey, um, not so fast, the books say. Those games may still be played.
Thousands of folks die from the flu. Well.

The whole issue of the advice that wearing masks will not protect oneself is baffling. When my late wife was undergoing chemo therapy at Mayo Clinic, patients were advised to wear masks and it was not because they posed a threat to others. BTW, no one suggested I wear one while accompanying her.onemoretry wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2020 6:35 amPerhaps the people not wearing surgical masks have been influenced by the comments of numerous people in the medical field who indicate that wearing one is not very effective in preventing others from infecting you?

Why risk community spread by going to a casino now? The best thing for everyone to do is to stay home for a few days and limit social contact to slow the spread of the virus. Wearing a mask isn’t going to help when the virus transfers primarily through surface contact. Are you disinfecting machines before playing?
