Re: Taxable payout?
You tip the attendent when they give you a jackpot pay. I tip $20 per thou up to $5K and then a flat $100 for anything over. When I won the $20K I tipped $200. But I know some people who tip $10 per thou.

I tip $100 on a dollar royal and $40-$60 on aces with a kicker in dollars ($2000).

Always tip the slot attendants that pay you the jackpots. If it wasn't for them, you wouldn't be getting your money, now, would you???

Steve, what do you consider the correct tipping scale, in terms of $ per thousand won?

$20 per thou is good, although I wouldn't stop at $5k flat rate. Keep it going.

I think it depends on the market. I tip heavily in Vegas, some in
Tunica, less in Biloxi, none in St Louis. Played in AC but no jackpots.

Actually if you are in a tax bracket where you lose itemized deductions, you cannot deduct losses against wins. It is a lousy system, but your wins in excess of $1200 are taxable, and your losses are not deductible if your income is large enough to lose the itemized deduction.

My income is hardly large enough, but I wound up paying taxes on a video poker win despite having enough losses that would have otherwise offset the win. In my tax situation, I was better off taking the standard deduction than itemizing (even with my losses to offset that win), so I took the larger standard deduction but did have to pay taxes on my win.
