Recreational W2G Win

Post by alpax »

I went to a different native tribal casino than I normally go to for a buddy's birthday (he prefers this over the one I go to). Their video poker inventory is not so great so I played an old favorite Three Card Poker and lost a little after couple of hours.

The few 9/6 Jacks or Better machines were occupied by Keno players who had a high credit balance, so I know their session will not be done for a while. I bite the bullet and I went into the high limit room (the reel and video slots are "high limit" the video poker is not even good in there too). I played about $300 worth of 9/5 $1 Jacks or Better (very similar strategy to 9/6 JoB), the 9/5 DDB gets ton of action whenever I go.

Played for a close to 2 hours towards the end before losing it all (ruined), I did not see a 2 (Deuce) dealt to me for about 10-15 hands. Some reason I thought it might be worth a shot at playing one hand of Deuces Wild.

The Deuces Wild paytable is the Fooler Deuces, where the Wild Royal plays 20 for 1 (100 credits) and the 5 of a Kind pays just 12 for 1. It is 97.58% return with optimal play but I was just going to wing it since I do not practice this strategy (the VP Pocket and Video Poker for Winners does not carry this paytable). I am inspired by Phil to do 1 potshot per casino visit, I put in $25 more for just as 1 potshot by switching to the $5 denomination.

I hit deal and I got 3 Deuces with an Ace and 7. It was a rush of a good feeling since I am guaranteed 4 of a kind which is 4 for 1 payout (20 credits), a good way to exit there after. It was not hard to just hold the Deuces at this point. I hit draw and another Deuce popped out and I was in some sort of shock to see it appear.

There was a slot attendant right near by to handle the logistics. The jackpot music was so loud that the lady was able to quickly notice. The total payout was 1000 credits of $5 which is $5000, it exceeds the W2G threshold of $1200. So I took this picture as soon as the attendant and supervisor walked away.

I know this is not a good game to play in the long term, but this is the best potshot I landed to date. It beats my previous high of quad aces on $1 DDB.

I can assure you that I did not make up this story. I do not expect this to happen all the time and not selling a strategy.

Wow great hit! And the first hand! Crazy! Congrats on your first W2G!

Re: Strategy
I would think it would be quite close to NSUD since both SF are 10 for 1. Frugal VP says it costs you 0.038% if you use NSUD exclusively.

There was 2 DW games in this area that paid 3K credits for quad dueces, they were changed just recently. I only got the chance to play them a couple of times and actully got quad dueces for $6K playing $2 denom, I like the casino but can't stand all the cigar smoke. Congrats on the win, didn't sound like you expected much good to come from the trip, I guess you never know.

Congrats on your win alpax. At this point right now who cares if it's not a great game to play in the long run because you've got 5 grand and you don't have to play it for the long term.

Congrats again.

Congratulations. The long term just got severely truncated! Tremendous bonanza. We might as well take a handful of potshots out the door. If we lose, we lose.

Thanks case! The circumstances will make it fairly easy to remember. When my buddy's birthday comes up, I'll think of this. How one potshot turns from a miserable trip to a memorable one.

Thanks! I won a video slot based W2G in the past at the casino, but it did not last long... I was only going to play just one hand, if I got something that paid out without the deuces being initially dealt, I might have tried another. I read on Mr. Dancer's Winner Guide book that a deuce is dealt 1 out of every 3 hands on average. I took the chance since I noticed I did not see a deuce for the last dozen set of hands or so. I might try it again but I will not hold my breath for it to work out the way it did.

With the 10 for 1 payout for the straight flush, I was going to try to play the basic NSUD strategy. But playing 4 for full house and quad has very similar approaches. Both average to 1 in 10 hands for 4 for 1 payout

Thus far the best 2 potshots I took at $5 denomination was a full house and straight on Jacks or Better.

Thanks kk, I do not like the smoke either. I prefer not to play next to a smoker, and find a different machine to play on whenever possible.

I believe the 6k payout deuces wild is called Triple Deuces Wild, all the other payoffs are shorted in favor for 600 for 1 payout for Quad Deuces.

Variance is almost as rough as Triple Double Bonus.

Thanks Ted, you are right about the game not being great. I did not rely on this potshot as a hail mary to save the bankroll, but I'll take this miracle potshot. It covers the losses I had last year (a big relief for me) and gives me something to play with the rest of this year. I'll have to get win-loss reports from the places I played to write off as much of this as possible should not be too bad.

I still got long ways to go if I want to be known for comebacks, I do not play enough high variance games though.

Congratulations. The long term just got severely truncated! Tremendous bonanza. We might as well take a handful of potshots out the door. If we lose, we lose.

Thanks FAA, just do 1 or 2 potshots at most. If you play for quarters, do the potshot for dollars, if you pay for dollars, do the potshot for 5 dollars. I usually do it if I lose 5 to 10 hands in a row (still limit it to once or twice a day). I get up and go to the high denomination, put in enough for the potshot and go for it.

Very nice!   I've hit four $1,000 $5 single coin quad deuces so far this year, but I have yet to hit one for $5K .  You did it right!   Put in a small amount and walk away....   Some people posted some pretty nasty comments when I posted my pot shot strategy a few months ago.    As usual, they read one sentence and made all the wrong assumptions.  Pot shots are fine if you limit them to very small amounts and go back to playing cheap.    Flat betting max coins Dancer style on an overall negative expectation video poker machine is a guaranteed loser no matter who you are or what denomination you are playing!   You can send my commission check via PayPal.

Nice hit alpax, well deserved!
It goes to show that single coin isn't the only way to be successful when taking a pot shot.
