I went to the Hard Rock yesterday and tried the modified strategy.   You can't tell all that much from one day's play, but it's interesting what happens. First, it makes the game more exciting because you draw 5 new cards often and are drawing to Royals a lot more.  The game tends to play a little more choppy.  You may go longer between hits, then get a big hand and come back.  I definitely did see more Wild Royals and I can see how your chances at a quad deuce or royal would increase.  So far, I like what I see.

I see why you want to do #1 and #3. You hit bigger hands. I guess that holds for the gut shot straight, too, but it is a redraw, and they don't come in big often. I'd just do 1 and 3 myself, if I wanted the big plays. But I did get a redraw royal once. Anyway, it makes sense.

Actually, I think not drawing to inside straights is the best one of all. All you are going to get is a straight and the odds are pretty good against it.  With the deuces in play you get a decent number of great hands dealt, so five new cards feels like a better option to me. If you're playing a quarter machine with really bad odds like we will at the Beau Rivage (95.96%), I think it's better to go for the quad deuce or royal than settle for a tiny win.  You're probably going to lose anyway and another $1.25 is not going to help you much.  One Royal or another couple of quad deuces can make your trip financially positive.

Although I have the penalty situations memorized with a deuces and 3 continuous non-suited cards, I would keep the deuce with the 3 continuous cards if it is in the middle, 678/789/89T/9TJ/TJQ, it is because 19 cards can form a straight (two values in each direction and there are 4 of them, along with the other 3 deuces) get a card to get a straight to get 2 to 1 payout or 9 other cards to get the 3oaK to break even. The expected play is still even money return overall.

For me, the additional excitement factor is worth the small penalty for no inside straight draw. One nice hit on a total redraw might bail out a bad day. Always something to be said for anticipation.

Big thanks to FloridaPhil and Vman96 for the ideas and information presented here. As I mentioned to FloridaPhil in another thread I am just learning Airport deuces and I really like the ideas in #1 and #3.

Airport Deuces is a great game with pretty decent odds.  It's fairly common, but you have to look for it.  At the Tampa Hard Rock they must have a 100 video poker machines and only three have this pay schedule in quarters. As you can image, I'm hammering the heck out of them.

Speaking of airport deuces which I play a lot, has anyone kept track of the longest dud streak on that game without hitting a bet return of 2 for 1 or more. Mine is in the mid 40's and that has happened several times over the years. Usually at least once a session, I have a dud streak of 30 hands or so with just money back or nothing returned on my bet. On the flip side, I can't remember any winning streaks of more that about 8 hands or so without some losers thrown in to break the streak. If I remember, on this game the long term average is hitting 2 for 1 or more on your bet happens every 6 hands. That is what I base my Martingale Clone play on. That method of course faile when you have the really long dud streaks and don't hit big when you have bets way up there. That is why Phil's method keeps a good part of your money in your pocket and not theirs.

FloridaPhil, In case you did not see my post in the other thread the IP casino down the street from the Beau has Airport Deuces at the Insomnia bar that also has a progressive Royal payout. Good luck in Biloxi.

The IP has been a favorite of ours for a long time.  Now that Margaritaville is gone, they're about the only decent VP game in Biloxi.  The place is old and a little run down compared to the Beau, but the VP odds are pretty good.  We play at the Beau long enough to keep up our comped rooms, then head over to the IP for more serious play.  Thanks for the tip.  That kind of information is much appreciated. If you're ever in Central Florida, I'll be happy to reciprocate.
