I'm not saying you prejudge people by race, but appearance, dress, vocabulary etc. We all do.
No, we all don't. You might, and perhaps many do but not everyone does.
Remember the old public service television ads?
You've got to be taught, before it's too late? Before you are six or seven or eight. You've got to be carefully taught. To hate all the people your relatives hate, you've got to be carefully taught.
Prejudice isn't natural. It's taught.
Prejudice is obviously a more General concept and term.....Racism is a specific form of prejudice centered on a person's race or ethnicity, and the various physical and cultural traits and values. Obviously there can be many forms of racism in terms of the degree of prejudice, the actual practice and actions of the racist in manifesting their prejudice against other people, etc. Consider this: In most Asian cultures, such as Japanese, Korean, Vietnamess etc. it is common to find most individuals of each ethnicity are prejudiced AGAINST marrying other races/ethnicites (as well as other less formal types of relationships besides matrimony.) This has been going on for a long time, and exists throughout other regions of the world. However, NO ONE would even think to equate or compare that form of racial prejudice with what took place in Nazi Germany against the jews in WWII.....or with what took place in Turkey (known then as the Ottoman Empire) during WWI against the Armenians .... or what took place in Rwanda in 1994......OR, with what existed in the USA during its first 200 years as both a British Colony and then (from 1787 thru 1865) as a sovereign nation, and what still takes place in the USA on a daily basis in various locations right through to today.
I personally have experienced, and continue to experience, prejudice and discrimination throughout my entire life. It comes in many forms, from many sources, and with many different intentions and reasoning. In fact anyone who is physically or mentally disabled experiences regularly, although it may be so subtle, or it just may be something the person is numb to, that it doesn't register or seem like a big deal. Sometimes it is not.....sometimes it is. But Prejudice against, or towards, or even on behalf of or IN FAVOR of the disabled is not even close to the pain or hurt that racial prejudice causes.
Still, I know what it feels like to be judged unfairly or harshly or incorrectly to the extent that it costs me something significant or is a disadvantage. I know what it feels like to hear a person's ignorance or even ill-will cut thru your dignity and self worth.....maybe now people who live in a Black and white, cut and dry world where their values and beliefs are the "right" ones and everyone else is "wrong" (like a certain poster I can think of here on this site) understand why I am the way I am, and why I deplore the general lack of empathy and unreasonable inflexible spirit of the Republicans, despite the fact I was a registered Republican for most of my Adult Life until a few years ago.

A little while back, you made a comment about certain casinos that tended to attract lower income people who tend to smoke more. That sort of sounds like some prejudging was going on there.

Demographics aren't prejudiced. Boulder casinos deal and market to the lower end of the economy. Stating that lower income people smoke more than affluent people is factual, not a judgement. Again, a fact, not an opinion. Saying low income people play vp less well than rich people would be an opinion that may be prejudiced. Saying they smoke more is a fact.
It's important to know the market.
Some of the best plays in Vegas are to be found in " low rent" casinos. The "Horns" are low roller paradise.
You can stay on the strip and enjoy a billion dollars worth of fresh cut flowers and art or play places with better pay tables. For locals, its an easy choice. On vacation, its not so simple.
Sorry about your stroke Bill. Really hope you are doing better, it seems like you are. I have been to some of the casinos on Boulder Highway, but it was a long time ago. I have no intention of going back, unless of course something dollar ten play 100.72 All Americans pop up. For that I will put up with the smoke. I used to like a casino in Henderson when it first opened. I believe it is now Fiesta Henderson? Had an African theme, but can't remember it's name when it first opened maybe 20 years ago. Did well there on 10/7 DB, but the smoke eventually got to me and I haven't been back. If I ever get back to LV, I suspect my VP choices will be Red Rock or Green Valley Ranch, but I will probably stay on the strip.
Believe it was called The Reserve. For some reason, I've not set foot in Fiesta Henderson since moving here, although I drive by it several times a week.
I had a stroke last December 8th. I was very lucky in that I realized what was going on and got immediate treatment. My rehab went better than was to be expected. Two neurologist have told me they found my recovery to be amazing. One said he wouldn't rule out "miraculous".
My vision problems lasted several months but are 99% gone and my balance isn't the best but in many ways I'm in better shape than I was before. The only permanent damage seems to have been that my peripheral vision is almost non-existent. I also find myself having to dig a bit deeper for information that used to just pop right out of my mind..
Dropped a good bit of weight and ditched a few habits I should have quit a long time ago. Even eat better these days.
