Re: My Journey on Video Poker
Agreed that grinding the fpdw quarter game can get "boring." But why change something that's working right now. Been a great month of deuces so far. 10/6 DDB has been either outstanding or hell on earth. After the smoke cleared in the last months of playing the roller coaster game, was left with close to the ER on the game...making about 10 cents per 100$ coin thru.
So...like I said early, taking a break from the roller coaster ride, but may ride it again at some point. But enjoying success at the fpdw and job, and not going thru the variance nightmare. Glory be.
Cheers

When dollars is proceeding well on my brief intrusions, I feel invincible. I fear that this us akin to the Beer Guts phenomenon. I tread very lightly so as not to awaken the sleeping dog.

Nice to hear from you again, DAAnMAAn. I appreciate how you spoke the truth about the bankroll needing to be replenished due to bad streaks on 10/6 DDB. Bottom line is that players have to accumulate bankroll some way or some how while they play any video poker game/payschedule.
It will take most people years of playing to achieve 100% theoretical result of playing 10/6 DDB. I know you have a long run perspective of the game as people should, but does the big plus scores for the day negate the downside of running into cold streaks?
I do think FPDW is the better choice and I commend you for the switch, but the obstacle for that is if there will be casinos willing to make it available (I heard Sam's Town eradicated a good amount of their FPDW in 2015), as well as not getting thrown out for playing too much at a time.

Yes, breaks and vacations are so important. Definitely needed to cleanse myself from the DDB roller coaster ride I was on. Not that roller coasters aren't fun and I might get back on it for a ride. But definitely going to appreciate the other rides the carnival offers. Too much metaphors? Lol
Damn, I want a royal Flush! Been over two RF cycles. Come on already. Maybe if I cry about it I'll get one!
If you see my coaster, the one with the wooden structure that has termites in it, get on another one. 3 Royals in 1,5m hands ( 3 sequences of over 500k each ). Just a couple of other ones en between those over the last 3 years. Statistically nearly impossible. By the way, the bearings in my coaster wheels are dried out and squeak like crazy too and the seat belts are torn and pulling out from the mounting. I think I would be better off in a hand built soap box racer. Anyone remember those? I made a really cool one when I was 10.

Between the posts, I had a session of 10/6 single-line quarter that was just ridiculous. 2 Aces w/k, two quad 2's, 3's, and 4's with a kicker, and a few other quads. All in all, a $1500 profit night, one of my biggest ever on that game...almost felt bad about it as the guy next to me was putting in bill after bill after bill....That's the good news. The bad news is over the course of the next 6 sessions or so, gave it all back plus about a grand. That's when I made my change to deuces. With .25 fpdw, two nice quad deuces on loose deuce .25c (2500 for a quad deuce), and a few good $1 job sessions, got the grand back plus another grand.Just a day in the life of video poker playing. Crazy stuff. Feeling alot calmer at the moment playing fpdw. But the itch is starting

I took another ill advised detour at the craps table. I lost $40 at Tropicana craps. Even with a $13 VP win, I left dejected. I lost $22 despite a quad on $1 VP. I hit a $31 quad on 8/5 quarter JOB outside the poker room. I forgot how loud those dopey slot machines are with their programmed boilerplate. I won $10 in two spins of three line DW. It was so confusing. I think I only played two of the lines since the top one was dormant. It's fun once I get used to it I guess. Holding two deuces was exciting. That line yielded a quad. Progressive was $1,065 at Caesars. More bad luck on PM sessions. I lost $66 in 1.5 hours. Crappy comps since it's full pay too. Yeah, I'll be giving that RF back by Halloween. ATM trip was kiss of death. I must get my paltry sum the night before and leave the damn card home! Fail to plan and I plan to fail. I'll even write this in my planner now. RT on boardwalk in drizzle. Just a horrific trip.

I learned my lesson the hard way (no pun intended) on craps...craps is crap. It will get you sooner or later. No doubt it's a fun exciting game and socially or with friends, it's a fun game to play. But don't try to make a buck from it. Entertainment.I've been running well (knock on wood) with the deuces wild and decided to up the gamble with loose deuce today and hit one for $625 (2500 credits for loose deuce with full coin bet) quarter denomination. But definitely it's more variant and started the session with $400 and hit it when I was down to around $130 dollars and a bit over 3,000 hands.but I figured if I'm hitting a quad deuce every session, why not go for the loose deuce 2500 monster, instead of the 1000 cookie monster of fpdw....well, the reason is taking away a $1.25 for every quad really adds the f up! Better hit those deuces or else! On fpdw, not so much. same as nsud. But at any rate, with a proper bankroll, I don't mind taking a little extra risk on loosey deucey for a bit.I have a question I'm going to pose on strategy that I wonder if anyone can answer concerning loose deuce/triple deuces. Maybe Bob can answer it, if he bothers too.Anyway, cheers and stay the f away from craps...that's my advice.

I have to agree and disagree with you as to craps. I was a regular craps player years ago. If you timed your bets and the table, you could make a fortune at the game and some have. The problem is to do that, you usually need a huge bankroll because the ones who really clean up just press their bets and hope for a hot roll. Most of the time you will lose doing that. I found that a moderate press on once or twice worked quite well most of the time, but you still needed a big bankroll even for that. I don't play anymore because I can't stand at the table for fifteen hours anymore, deal with the drunks, or other rude and clueless people. I will say, my total losses on craps were just a small percentage of what I have lost at vp and in craps at least at my casino, your behind the line odds bets have no house edge at all and your pass line bet only gives them a half percent.
edited to add.....I once had a once in a lifetime 55 minute roll. I was down to my last 5 bucks and only had enough for a pass line bet. My point was 4. I rolled twenty minutes and finally caught the 4. By then, the rest of the table was rolling in dough. My next point was a ten. Another fifteen minutes to get that one. My final number was a six which I never got. By then though, several at the table had made over fifty grand. My only take from that sequence was several hundred dollars in tips from the other players. I was glad to get that, but really missed the boat. That was about 25 years ago.

got a nice reality check tonight with loose deuce...or should I say, not so loose deuce. Ate me for lunch. $400 session bankroll gone. So...grabbed another $200 for FPDW and eventually ate that too. Just one of those nights. But can't cry too much, been a great month of May and still up $2k, $2,008 to be exact. But those bad nights....arg, they really suck.In terms of craps, I don't think there is a game like it where you can make so much in so short of a time, or lose so much in so short a time. But no matter how you slice it, it's a negative EV game except for the odds bet. One dealer I know told me one time the best way to play craps...buy in for $100. Tell the dealers you'll be back in about 10 minutes while you go to the bar and buy a drink. Come back and take your $100 and cash out. Best way to play craps lol...well, I thought it was funny. Laugh, damn you! lol
