Gambling should be considered as recreation and nothing more.  Professional gamblers might make make money at the game, but it costs them in other ways.

IMO, If your always losing your entertainment $ playing - EV video poker, it wont be your hobby for very long.

And if you have major issues in your life because your a professional gambler , you probably wont last in that profession very long either.

I'm pretty sure not every recreational player always plays -EV games, and not every professional gambler automatically ends up with problems in there life.

Both of these views seem extreme to me.

one may not agree or like to hear what phil is saying, but they would be wise to heed his free, valuable advice.

djc32 does have a good point about how things cannot be assumed with all recreational and professional gamblers; but in reality more times than not Phil is right.

I know there is not enough people like Phil around, but the biggest advice I take from Phil is that people are too caught up with their excitement on winning moments to neglect what they lost in between. They will come back chasing for more, that can be the most dangerous part.

I have been focusing on losing least as possible than to go for the big prize.

of course, there are exceptions to every rule. everyone has heard about some 90 year old, who smoked, got drunk everyday and was overweight. but, there are so many on this site who will not play a machine, if it's paytables reflect something less than a 99% payout, compared to attempting to making a living via gambling, i would guess the odds are much worse.

I'll check it out, I love to fish period. I'll be heading out to Santee Cooper in S.C. for some cat fishing soon, this time I'm going to go after bass also as I've been told they have some monster bass there.[/QUOTE]
If anyone is interested, the current frecord in Ct. is 12lbs 14 ounces and dates back to 1961. Makes my little 7 pounder from a few years ago seem like a baby. She was full of roe and I gently placed her back into the pond. She was a great catch for me though. I had lost her another time when the line got wrapped up in the weeds. I can't say as I would gently give back a big jackpot vp win to the casino though even if it was full of Roe too.

Video Poker and bass fishing do have a lot in common.  They both involve long sometimes tediously boring periods punctuated by short periods of extreme excitement.  I fished money bass tournaments for years and enjoyed the competition.  Unlike video poker the prize money kept getting bigger not smaller.  Bass tournament professionals make their money from endorsements and selling products.  I'm not exactly sure how video poker professionals make theirs, but I suspect most of the real profit comes from the same source.

There technically should not be such a thing as a Video Poker Professional that is widely accepted in the casino industry. Only live hold'em poker players are acceptable as professional gamblers and they get sponsored by FullTilt (in the past), Party Poker (in the past), and PokerStars as well as from the thousands of wannabe poker players they beat and take their money.

Their source of profit? It is simply the casinos that they exploit. A good amount of them have full time occupations to help them meet end to end in their living expenses. Or some of them share their secrets for a price.
