Re: Another Useless Effort
She told me she could not comp me a buffet until I show some play.
Although I was just in there 1 week earlier and blew $2500 and didn't
ask for a single comp. I brought this up and she said yes I see that
but today is a new day and I can only comp you on what is played today.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------She should have parted with a $20 and treated you to lunch herself, with a "It's your lucky day" disclaimer. Sounds crazy, but that's how word of mouth grows.

Alpax, suppose you made your first forty min bets, denting only a sixth of your bankroll before you got a whiff of a winner. You would have had similar outrage over the delayed win, and perhaps even switched, with most of the roll intact. Sounds boring, but as one who has done it, that much bleeding still made my remaining blood boil. The biggest loss I can sustain with this is $70. Such machines make for unsustainable play. I came to the belated realization that I was a quarter player with dollar aspirations, which were always foiled. I've only had one swift quad on these machines. Adapt and survive.
At the moment I am fortunate to be able to switch to a lower denomination without sacrificing paytable payout. I would do that rather than single coin. e.g. max bet $1 to max bet quarters rather than single coin $1. Phil does not recommend his system with Jacks or Better as well.

She does get commission for any of the players who make a return trip back to the casino, she would be a bad host to lose someone that is worth something to the casino. Vegas is a competitive industry since the are casinos everywhere, I always ask for deductions/comp for my play at the time I am checking out.

I don't know what I ever saw in single coin dollars, besides the quieter area. I have since tried Cheap System on DW. Much better time and thanks to a Wild Royal won enough to cover my JOB loss. It's about time I ditched JOB as well. It plays like it spells.

My host at the Venetian for many years was Brenda Roberts. The sweetest lady whom I cared for deeply. She had a problem with new management and went to the Wynne. When I tried to contact her a few months later I saw where her cell phone was no longer working. I called the Venetian and asked if anyone knew where she went. They said that she went in around Thanksgiving and found out she had breast cancer. She died fairly quickly. Her husband had left her after an affair and she had no children. 39 years old. I was rewarded with a fat illegal. Anyway we will see...I think I will try to go to the Golden Nugget. I am through with the Venetian

I never met her, but that is sad news about Ms. Roberts. Our host at that time was Nina, who left Venetian to go to Mandalay Bay. Don't recall Nina's replacement because that was when Sheldon was cutting back comps for all mid-level players like us. The new host was definitely not memorable, so we moved on.
We've played at GN a little every trip, but really don't like the whole downtown experience. Fremont Street has devolved in the past year or so.
Good luck!

Sorry to hear about your host. It understandable that was the reason that you've continued to play at the Venetian. At least the community here can understand that and help you transition to another place.
You might want to give the South Point casino a try. It is nearby the airport has they carry good DDB and TDB for dollars. There are many amenities so you wont need to leave the premises. Then again, the nature of those games are still a heaven or hell experience due to its high variance and will require a good bankroll to play if you are still willing to play it.

A word about comps from my perspective...
I've been playing for around 4 years. I started out small and ended up playing huge amounts at very high denominations. As you would expect the comps kept rolling in. At my high point I was getting 2,900 dollars a month free play, suites, 500+ a month in food comps and probably another 1,000 a month in other comps. It was all great fun. BUT It led me to gamble more and more and to expect more and more. I pretty much stopped gambling and I just noticed that my August weekly comps are now at 55 dollars twice a week. They used to be 300 dollars twice a week. I've had run-in's with my host and right now I think I'd only get a regular room if that.
My point to this whole thing is, be careful that you don't start a spiral that leads to getting angry over entitlement or lack there of. I went through all of that buck luckily never had the "do you now how much I have spent here" argument with anyone. I was able to pair down my gambling, get over the loss of comps and have basically removed any further losses which for 2014 were pretty big.
It's an ugly cycle, it can bring out the worst in a person and really is one of the down sides to gambling.
I've accumulated 95k tier credits so far this year, that's almost 2/3 of the way to 7* for next year. You'd think I'd have better than 55 dollar comp. I'm not at all interested in doing the math at this point. Now that I have unburdened myself from the web of comps, promotions, hosts (the game), I find I enjoy my visits so much more. I haven't stayed at Harrah's so far this year and don't feel like I missing anything.
So, you might find things to be better if you decide not to play the game, just enjoy your visits. That's my advice to one and all. I wish you well.

Not many people are willing to share the dark side of gambling, so I really appreciate that you've shared this.
I think the main part that is beyond your control is the fact that CET cut back a lot on comps, offers, and bounce back mailers significantly starting around late in 2014. Even if you continued to play the way you have, you would be getting much less from them as every Total Rewards member has posted on various forums.
I will still be playing video poker, but I feel I have much better control of my gambling than I have in the past.

I only play here now, free play. that still pisses me off when I get beat by 20K points every single month! I spend most of my free time in the outdoors, in the quiet, no phone, no tv, nothing to distract me. I try to put the end to the lives of as many wild hogs as I can who eat my corn, try to call in the coyotes who eat the baby quail and baby deer, (and baby calves!). There is something peaceful about God's beautiful outdoors and the fact that we as Texans and Americans we have the privilege to enjoy them. I have spent many hours in my deer blind talking to my Dad and my Mom, two of my very best friends, who have been dead for several years. When I can't do these things, I get irritable. But it only takes a very few seconds celebrating the creations of our wonderful God to make me happy. I need to go hunting and check feeders this weekend!! Have a great weekend!!
