I must say DB that your esoteric anologies got me this time. I am considering taking a headache pill and I never take that stuff for the most part.       I do not quite get the headache part but so what......There is no need to shut this thread down......it is quite interesting and entertaining, and I think others feel the same way.....At this point, I think we all can agree that most threads on the forum can take many different directions apart from the original poster's initial post.......that is NORMAL, since when people get together for conversation and fellowship, the direction and tone and purpose of their conversations often diverge and morph into many different things......why is this such a BAD thing?Granted, this is a video poker forum so the MAJORITY of posts should be somehow related to that "general" subject......but we need not hold ourselves to the fire every time someone posts something that seems to be about something OTHER THAN video poker in the midst of a thread.Up until this thread I had NEVER EVER heard of "Cripple Creek"......now I know.     My point was, I do not think, in this day and age, it would be acceptable to have a place named "Retard Valley", or "Anorexic Hill"  or "Amputee Village"  or  "Diabetic Orchard"  .... you see my point.     It is all in the context, I suppose....as well as the Time Period.

I am not for shutting down threads. I am referring more to the meat of some of the analogies. Anyway, as long as we are off topic what is happening in Baltimore is awful all the way around. I couldn't believe that comment the mayor made. At this point in time anyway, I think the cops are showing tremendous restraint even after being pelted with bricks and who knows what else. A lot more restraint than I would show if I were in their situation that is for sure. Just hope nobody gets killed there and someone probably will. What gets me is these people destroy their own neighborhoods and when the high school got let out, they just joined in the brick throwing and destruction. Just disgraceful.

the 'burning of baltimore' is both obscene and predictable. this is what happens when liberal/politically correctness thinking runs amuk. the entire world is witnessing live what is going on and can draw their own conclusions.  the police cannot win, if they try to bring order, they will be accused of being abusive. i will contend, that the police holding back is a direct order from the mayor and police commisioner. i am saddened by what is happening and hope no one is badly hurt, but in one sense, i am glad to be seeing what is going on. i want to see how the liberal race baiters find a way to justify this or blame this on someone else, other than the rioters.  a man was killed in police custody, but the investigation is not completed. we know that the initial claims in ferguson were proven false.  guess who will lose in the end, the very same folks who are rioting and live there. those stores that have been burned and looted are likely to never reopen. home values will drop, jobs will be lost. if something is not done to bring this to an end, you may be looking at another Detroit in the making.

nothing justifies this type of destruction and violence.....But if anyone is tempted to (even in a quiet, subtle way) say even to themselves "Typical black people" or something along that line, do not even go there....stop yourself now.Outside of obvious external differences amongst different ethnic groups, people are generally the same....we all want the same things, we all fear the same things, we all have very good people in our midst and very BAD people as well......no one race is better or worse, more moral or intelligent, than another.     Why am I saying this?If you are familiar with HISTORY, then you should know that, throughout different periods, there have been specific racial groups who have suffered economic and cultural prejudices, privation and discrimination.  In the 1800s, the IRISH (i.e. many so-called "WHITE people" of today) were greatly looked down upon in most major cities in the northeast and midwest....in the late 1800s the same was true of Italians and Germans, as well as other ethnic groups.   and lo and behold, MANY of these people also rioted and vented their frustrations out in similar manner to what the people of Baltimore are doing, and what the people of L.A. did back in 1992, and in the 1960s in Detroit, etc etc.       The 1863 draft riots in NYC were the result of long simmering resentment and frustration....the civil war draft was the SPARK, but the RIOT that ensued was also due to economic inequality, political corruption and unequal representation, amongst many other factors.   There were many other riots throughout AMerican History in many cities, MANY of which were perpetrated by so called "White" people suffering the same sense of hoplessness and helplessness that these people in Baltimore now feel......Today's riots in Baltimore are NOT solely due to what afro-americans view as police brutality and discrimination.   These are people with absolutely NOTHING to lose in this world (which is exactly the problem)......the HUGE gap in economic reality between minorities and whites, and then the even more stark GAP in income strata in the population as a whole, is the REAL, primary root cause of things like this......it is very simple:  People who actually HAVE even a modest amount of "Stuff" in this world, such as a decent home, or a good job, or even the PROSPECT of having such things,  DO NOT go out and burn the town down and destroy everything in sight....they just do not.Until people finally realize that the current economic, pseudo capitalist system is no longer functioning adequately, until society comes to terms with the NEED to reboot the AMerican Dream via a RATIONAL tax code, better education for EVERYONE and getting serious about things like healthcare and fixing corruption, there will be lots more "Baltimore Burnings".....somewhere in your hearts, you all know this is true, and I am NOT claiming I am the originator of this viewpoint....it is rather quite obvious. Then again....maybe these problems are unfixable, and it is going to take a complete breakdown in society, with MASSIVE casualties and complete infrastructure failure, where we put ourselves back into the early 1800s and force the survivors to actually hack it out once again just to survive, then and only then will there be a chance to get it right. But I urge you....do not buy into the Fox News propaganda that attempts to race bait the entire nation, NOR should you listen to IDIOTS like AL Sharpton or Jesse Jackson.....the truth, such as it is, is straightforward and unpleasant......the problem is PEOPLE...ALL PEOPLE, giving in to their BASE urges and motives, instead of forcing themselves to control their actions, to think the right things and NOT act on selfish, vile urges and desires.   This means White people, Black, Brown, Yellow, etc  recognizing in the others the same right to live, to exist, to be happy and have the basic needs of life met, and vice versa all the way around.Pie in the sky?   Only because people have long since stopped even TRYING to do the right thing, or even THINK the right things!

Do you think a 75% out of wedlock birth rate may have something to do with it? This rate is going up for Whites and Hispanics as well and with similar results. The easier predictor of a life in poverty is not having a father at home.

DB I know you are a well educated person and you clearly have a good heart. However, I think there is another problem. There is a subset of people, not all black, many whites who participate in the occupy Wall street get togethers who want things like the Baltimore unrest to continue and grow. They profit from it. It doesn't help that many people still do not accept the fact the the DOJ, led by Eric Holder has clearly dispelled the "hands up don't shoot" story that led to Ferguson. This does not mean the cops in Baltimore are innocent, we need to find out what happened before we rush to judgement. It's too late for Police officer Brian Moore of the NYPD who is a casualty of growing anti-cop sentiment. Police lives matter too. He was 25 years old.
