They are supposed to report cash tips but who really knows how much they received each time? I normally tip in cash and on those rare times when I put a tip "on the card" I increase the amount of the tip because I know that the amount is seen by not just the server I tipped.

I have found out that cash tips are appreciated more.
of course they prefer cash tips, that income is on the honor system for tax reporting purposes. i am sure they report it correctly. under report, and qualify for an obamacare subsidy.
was just at cherokee and one of the servers came by for drink orders.
she was soooo pregnant, she looked like she might have the baby right on
a VP machine. didn't need anything but called her over. gave her $5, if
she would just go sit down for 5 minutes. she looked really tired.
Good for you.  It's easy for people with money to consider low wage workers to be stupid or slackers.  If you started out poor and remember when you were that person, you would have a different opinion on tipping.

It is quite unfortunate the server had to do this to make ends meet for herself. The second hand smoke (not sure if Cherokee is nonsmoking) is dangerous for the unborn baby. The state labor laws allow for 10 minute breaks every 2 hours or so.

It is a very good gesture on your part notes1!

Before I retired, I was a bartender at one of our local casinos. I worked with cocktail waitresses eight hours a day. These women work very hard at their job. They do a lot of walking around during their shift. I have heard them com plain about how some customers treat them badly for one reason or another. I believe if they are doing their job they deserve to be toked. How much you toke is up to you.

like many others my age, we all started working from a young age. coming from a household of 7 kids, we were happy, there was nothing for extras. my parents never took anything for themselves, and it was expected that everyone work, it was good for us and gave us a little bit of spending money. i remember shoveling driveways for a quarter, and that was after a buffalo snowfall. maybe that is why i am such a fiscal conservative now, we did not have a lot, we were proud micks and never expected anybody to give us anything. you never aired your laundry. you just worked harder/longer than everybody else. i have no sympathy for the able bodied, lazy, take advantage of the system, i was somehow disadvantaged crowd. but, this young girl, who under normal conditions, probably weighed 100 pounds, was working her butt off and looked like she was about to bust. she deserved a break.  i did not want to be confused with the poster from minnesota.

I used to be a generous tipper, then I learned how much money drink girls actually make--at a nice place they easily make more than somebody with a college degree. Also at a restaurant, the chef skillfully crafting an expensive meal should be making more than the person who takes my order and fills my drink--this is almost never the case. And this isn't even considering the fact that the tipped worker is declaring only a fraction of their income to the IRS.
If a cocktail waitress is really nice I'll give them a fifty cent coin from the Blackjack table.
