Any discussion about the statistical validity of any Advantage Play "guarantee" is conjecture at best. There is no correlation between what happens in a computer lab with fixed factors and what happens in a casino with a human player. The fault I find with this strategy is not with the math, it's the players who are the wild card.

Who can play VP 100% computer perfect forever? Who has an unlimited bankroll and is willing to sacrifice it all on the cycle of an RNG? Who has the time to sit endlessly in front of a slot machine breathing toxic smoke and enduring all kinds of indignities just so they can make a profit in a casino? I am not taking jabs at professional gamblers. I wonder what someone who is that skillful and disciplined could do if they worked that hard at building a business or in a career with greater potential?

I believe video poker is best enjoyed as entertainment. I don't believe any casino game remains unbeatable for long. Today's casinos know when they have given away too much and they are quick to change the rules. Who can argue with that?

The question is what are we going to do about it? My plan is to use Advantage Play strategy to play the games I have and to play small enough where I get the entertainment I want at a cost I am willing to pay. I went to this strategy in 2018 and had a winning year playing 97% VP. How did that happen when the math said it shouldn't? Seven royals cured all my shortcomings.

1) Mr Dancer has been pretty clear that most people can't play the game perfectly. He talks a lot about the "human factors." He gives advice about understanding your limitations as well as tips such as not drinking while you play. None of these factors make an argument that people can't be successful advantage players if they apply the skills correctly.

2) You spend a fair amount of time in casinos based on your posts. Knocking spending time in casinos seems a bit hypocritical.

3) "I don't believe any casino game remains unbeatable for long. Today's casinos know when they have given away too much and they change the rules." I assume you mean "beatable." Yes, you always need to know the pay table you are playing on and the current rewards because they do change. Yes, it has gotten much harder. These are two points all advantage players agree with and it is not an argument against Advantage Play.

4) "My plan is to use Advantage Play strategy to play the games I have to play..."
You aren't using Advantage Play strategy when you play unless you actually have an advantage.

Out of the millions of people who play VP each year, how many have the games, skills, bankroll and discipline to be successful? Understanding your limitations is what I am referring to

When all the advantage VP games are gone, will Advantage Play Strategy still be taught?

You aren't using Advantage Play strategy when you play unless you actually have an advantage. I take from Advantage Play Strategy the parts that work on the games I have to play. Those parts are picking the best games at the denomination I am most comfortable with, playing as close to computer perfect as I can and taking advantage of comps and incentives. The math says I should play these games smaller to limit my losses and I do.

I don't know, and it really doesn't matter. From an advantage play perspective, the best anyone can do is instruct on what the requirements are in order to have an advantage. After that, it is up to the player to determine if those conditions exist.

I don't think you get to decide who has that right.

Advantage players would move on to a different game. Proper strategy for a particular pay table would still be valuable to learn for those who continue to play.

Sounds like a good plan. Nobody is arguing with that!

After that, it is up to the player to determine if those conditions exist. They don't exist a lot of the time I play, or I don't want to do what it takes sometimes (drive to a particular casino) to take advantage of it. So I don't call myself an advantage player and that's okay.

Today’s result. Played for 2 hour and a half. Break even is when I decided to walk out. Then I put in another $10 just for the heck of it. Then I lost it. So today i paid $10 for 2.5 hours’ fun.

My math says playing 9/6 Jacks five quarters at a time at 500 hands an hour is a negative $2.79 an hour game without comps. If you stick with that game at that denomination, you can play VP on the cheap. It's hard to stand in one place for $2.79 an our.

Have you checked with your Player's Club to find out how their comp program works? If you play enough, you should earn free play, free stuff, maybe even a free room during the week. That "Free Stuff" is part of your winnings.

I thought this sort of statement wasn't allowed in the Recreational forum.

Phil, can you please clarify what sort of mathematical statements in the recreational forum you have been so offended by in the past?

Had a similar session to that on my last trip. Some days "break even" feels like a victory. Some days it can be frustrating if you're always coming close but nothing seems to hit on the big one. But it's always better than losing.
