Nuff said.
I didn't say VP math doesn't work. I said it doesn't work for me. When you're seventy years old, assuming you make it that far, come back and tell us how you're doing. So far it sounds like you have some catching up to do.

Not everyone has catching up to do. For our 25th wedding anniversary, my wife surprised me with a trip to Las Vegas. That was in 1991, and it was when I first started playing video poker. i was 49 at the time. You can do the math.

We went to Tahoe for our 50th anniversary. I lost my ass playing NSU deuces in Reno. Went to Harrah's in Tahoe and hit a royal playing a 96% game with a hand the math said not to keep. Go figure.... I'm not arguing VP math does or doesn't work. VP math works on paper. If it works for you, Billy, Bob and who knows whoever else, great! This is gambling, not rocket science and anything can and will happen. Those figures in your calculator don't mean a damn thing when I'm hitting the buttons.I've been playing VP for a long time too. I've seen things happen that math could never predict. I've seen 4 royals in one day. I've seen more than one huge single coin jackpot. I've also seen bad streaks that would make most people quit the game. All of these things have lead me to believe there is no VP strategy that I would bet big money on. What happens happens. Now I realize this doesn't make me the most popular guy on this website. I could suck up to you guys, say you're right and go along with the crowd. That would go against everything that happens when I play. I have never seen any proof that playing by the math actually produces jackpots. If it does when you play, you fell on the winning side of the bell curve. If it doesn't, you lost. I don't know how to put it any simpler than that.

I agree. It seems like no one ever wants to talk about VP on this forum anymore.  There is no need to discuss my past differences with Bob Dancer any further.  That's history. Unless someone wants to drag it out again, let's move on.
That lasted almost two days. Perhaps a record.

We're going to the Hollywood Hard Rock over Thanksgiving. If I hit a good jackpot, I'll post the picture. Better hope it's not single coin or you will have some explaining to do.

I'm not really sure I understand this comment. You're playing short coin, and you hit a short coin jackpot - what's to explain?
We are flying to Laughlin tomorrow on a CET junket. We will have three full days of play there, plus whatever we do at Seneca on the way to and from Buffalo. I will be extremely surprised (and disappointed), if there is not at least one full coin royal on the trip.
I'm not really sure I understand this comment. I could be wrong as his motives are somewhat confusing. I think he just likes it when I respond to his jabs. It's fine as long as we don't consume the whole forum with it. This is the Recreational Play Forum. If you don't want to hear Recreational VP thoughts and comments, stay on the Strategy Forum. Problem solved. I have only hit one royal all this year and it was on a terrible game in West Wendover Nevada. That's a new low for me as I normally hit at least 2-3 a year. The math says I'm due, so it's max coins for me. The Hollywood Hard Rock has the best quarter deuces wild game in Florida at 98.9% We'll see how that works out.Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Isn't a "short coin jackpot" an oxymoron?
Just asking.
That is of course you're playing a 5 dollar denom machine or higher.
Gobble, gobble.....

The math says you have a 1 in about 43,000 chance on every hand to get a royal before the hand is dealt. You are never due to get a royal based on math. If you think you are due, then after getting a royal, you should play about 39,000 single coin hands, then switch to max coin until you hit your royal.

Timing is everything. These days I always play max coins unless I'm taking a pot shot on the big machines. If I have to play lousy VP games, I never play longer than two hours. This week we are driving 500 miles so we can play 98.9% deuces. We could play in Tampa and save a lot of gas. In Hollywood, every time we hit a wild royal we get an extra $6.25. 5-of-a-kinds pay an extra $3.75. Playing better games makes a big difference in the number of hands you can play with your money. This also means you earn more comps. Playing better games does not guarantee you will hit more jackpots. That is up to the will of the video poker Gods. The reason I take $5 and $10 game pot shots at single coin has nothing to do with math, it's purely personal. It's very exciting to play at that level, but I would never play those games with my own money because the risk is too high for me. Short run ups are very common in deuces. It is not uncommon to walk up to a $5 deuces wild game and run a $20 up to $50 playing single coin. When the game hits $50, I hit the max coin button. If anything at all happens, I get a huge pay day. Straight flushes pay $225. Five-of-a-kinds pay $375. Wild royals pay $625 and a quad deuce pays $5,000! The chances of hitting a quad deuce are 1/5000 compared to hitting a royal at 1/40,000. Even a single coin quad deuce pays $1,000. I have hit four of them taking $5 pot shots so far. Never mind an "in your dreams" royal for $20K! I play slots the same way. If that's not exciting, I don't know what is.Here's a photo I have posted before. With one $20 bill I hit a single coin $5 quad deuce for $1,000. The hand right after it was a max coin wild royal for $625 and NO W2G. Little risk, big profit. What's wrong with that?
