QQ vs Reg Poker
I'm stuck home and bored...Had to delay our Vegas trip due to catching the granddaughters cold...So might as well blow my nose and play on line a bit...I noticed that ED da Cat made the comment that QQ was the exception to the rule on the newer games vs the standard games...What is everyone's opinion. Is QQ really worth the extra investment or like the other new games where you either win big or loose your socks....?

Hey kj,QQs is worth the investment from an EV perspective and gives you rewards far more often. You get 2 1/2 times more quads, which makes it more fun. The EV on QQs per coin is generally (possibly always) greater than that for the base game. (It was even more fun a while back when the better pay schedules were on line, but perhaps those schedules were not as easy to find in casinos.)You should check past posts in the forum for changes in strategy. You will be more likely to lose bigger if you don't change some of your holds because there are many plays that are different from regular video poker in order to get QQs.The main ones are often holding a lower card with trip 2s thru 10s (like 7774 or 4442; exceptions: don't hold TTT5 or 8884) and holding two lower cards that sum to your pair like 6642, 6633, and 665A (the ace counts as "one" in these situations.) In some of the bonus games, you break up a lot of full houses to hold trips plus a lower card as well. And in the double and triple bonus games, it generally pays to hold a lower card with a baby pair: 332, 33A, 443, 44A are almost always good holds. Generally 22A is good and sometimes 442 is good.Shadowman posted a link yesterday in another thread that shows a book with some QQ thoughts and other links to basic strategies for most of the games. http://www.videopoker.com/quickquads/QQs are a nice change of pace, but it won't be as much fun if you don't take the time to change a few of your regular plays.Marie Meijer, your opinion would be good here. As I recall, you didn't think much of Quick Quads at first. Then I noticed you among the leaders on the board fairly often. What turned your opinion around?

She keeps getting good hits! I can't speak for her or any other player here but it's worth the time to learn the strategy if you find the paytables. Bob Dancer worked on (I'm sure with others) a strategy for this game because of the increased frequency of quads. He found some 3-play 9/6 DDB quarters he plays fairly often. Gotta be worthwhile if a pro adds it to his or her arsenal.

Lady Lucky and I played QQ our last trip to Red Rock. The first time we played we didn't have many hits. An hour or so later I returned and played 25¢ Bonus QQ and worked a $100 to over $500 in an hour hitting quads using Dancer's strategies.
We also played several sessions of Wheel Poker at RR the second session I played $100 up to over $1,200 also playing Bonus. In my multiple sessions I found that Bonus seemed to play better overall than the other games. I did alter the play strategy from regular Bonus.

kjohn,
Hope you get to feeling better and get to Sin City. Asked the better half about flying to Vegas for upcoming anniversary but with Alaska coming this summer odds are probably against a trip out west. So hit a few big ones when you get out there for those of us stuck online.
We have a weekend trip to IOC-Lake Charles where we will meet up with two of our daughters and the 8 girls celebrating their "girls weekend away". We can't wait since the Director of Slots emailed us to tell us Dream Card, Ultimate X and Good Times would be installed by the time we get there this weekend. We'll probably have to set a clock for 3 a.m. to get a machine.

Great advice about changing my strategy on the QQ. We rescheduled our trip to the 25th so I have time to practice...Think I'll go to VPgenius.com. Seems to be a good site and easy to use.....Thanks for the input...I usually just play it safe and stick to DDB or DW which I play pretty well...but I think if I slow down I can conquor the QQ game also...Off to bed with my Kleenex and Tylanol...I did get out today after being in for 6 days..Even Wal-Mart looked good...

TY New.I was unbelievably bad during the QQ contest but figured if Tan. could play that game well, so could I with some practice and determination. I am still making mistakes, that I catch. I should use training mode but it's more fun not to do that! Even though I caught on to that game better, the other day I was day dreaming and down 6720. I should have called it a day way before then. Then, voila, awaks dealt for 20,000 through no fault of mine. Sure wish I could have done something like that in Vegas this week!New: I remember wondering what you hit to get 15000+ for first on QQ awhile back!

Marie, Congrats on your hit!As much as I've played the game, I've never had dealt awak's except when playing Jacks or Better when it wasn't nearly so lucrative. I've never been lucky enough to have a dealt royal on any game. I did hit 11000 on one hand when battling with cd (dealt aces, drawing 2 out of 5 kickers on TDB). By the looks of Nanan's points, you were not the only one hitting a 20000 dealt hand this month.
