One Week 'Til Biloxi

Post by FloridaPhil »

Next Monday, my wife and I will be staying at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi for three days. Fantastic hotel and they are pretty generous with their comps (especially free rooms).   The last time we were there, they were about to update all the video poker machines at the bar.   The bar has a nice quarter Jacks progressive and the JB odds are a little better.   I'm hoping they improved the odds along with the machines.  There are two casinos in the area that have 9/6 quarter Jacks.  That's pretty rare in Mississippi.  Maybe they'll follow the lead?

Improve the odds? Lol I'd be praying they didn't lower them. Beau has the nicest property in town, so if anyone can get away with bad paytables it's them.

First VP action of 2015? It has been awhile since the last story.

VPFree2 listings report that the bartops have 8/5 Jacks or Better (97.30%) in quarter denomination with a progressive. It would probably the best low denomination option, but would require max betting so the single coin would not work.

Though I am not a fan of blackjack and this is a video poker forum, the blackjack rules at the Beau allows for surrendering, doubling after splits, and splitting up to 4 hands which makes it an above average option compared to other casinos nationwide.

Beau has terrible paytables. Drive about 25 miles west into Hancock County and there is a smaller more isolated casino called Silver Slipper that has the best paytables on the coast. Unfortunately, their highest denom is $5.

Was the bar still an 8/5 JoB progressive?

And sorry you couldn't hit anything super big Phil. But you're right that the one coin system lowers your exposure to bigger losses.

And I am surprised that Beau would offer surrender at BJ. I'm pretty sure none of the casinos in Tunica do. Definitely not the fleabag tables I've tried in the past.

playing cheap certainly saved you money. calling the VP, less than generous is being kind.  my limted experience at the beau was the same, nice hotel, absolutely terrible place to play. and, i have not read a single positive gaming experience from anyone else. i guess it a little easier to provide a pleasant place to play, if one just rips off it's customers. is that what playing VP has turned into?

The topic of the post sounds like you are going to Biloxi in a week, but you just came back from it later on from the day. Going there again so soon? Losing is never a good feeling, but on the silver lining of things, I think the loss will generate future hotel stay offers.

For the blackjack, I have never been there before, but most blackjack websites I ran into says the Beau allows surrenders for the 6 deck game. There is a 2 deck game but it has a high minimum of $25 with no surrenders, the 2 deck is probably a better choice to have for a player than surrendering. The cheapest I've seen on a weekday at Bellagio (Las Vegas) was for $15 minimum. Not sure if they follow the standard 70 hands per hour at 0.75% house edge average bet rating to determine the player's ADT.

The games listed on VPFree for Silver Sipper seems to be the games (JoB/NSUD/BDlx 99.5%+) I normally play at $1 denomination. Probably a perfect place for me, not sure if Phil will do most of the VP playing there and start paying for hotel stays at the Beau. Definitely $5 denomination is tough for many recreational players, not sure if Phil is willing to play for dollars at the Silver Slipper.

Not sure how severe MGM/Mirage's debt level is as compared to the well written/known of Caesars. There used to be great games there 5-6 years ago from what I've read by billyjoe, Phil, and VPFree, some guy posted a review where the VP of slots said they had to cut back. MGM wanted to sell off the Beau at a high price to relieve itself of debt.
