Unusual find on new IGT machines

Post by olds442jetaway »

Mohegan Sun is starting to put in some of the new IGT machines. I have to say up front that I do not like the big bright screen and the buttons do not work well. Loading and viewing the extensive menu is a bit complicated too, but I can adjust to that. That said, I have noticed that quite a few of the games are paying 800 for 1 for the Royal with just 1 coin bet even at the 5 cent level. This is great for novice or really low budget players or even for those who choose to take it easy for a change. Not all of the games have that paytable though. I was wondering if this is something that is peculiar to Mohegan or are other new IGT machines in other parts of the country offering this nice option. At least at Mohegan, the paytables on these machines are pretty poor most being in the 95-97 percent range. It looks like they have adjusted a few of them at the quarter and up level to be 99% games, but those do not pay out the 800 for 1 for less than 5 coins bet. I might head up there later tonight and see if what else is happening. There are a lot of machines being pulled lately, roped off areas etc.
I remember years ago that when slot attendants or management realized some of their machines had the 800 for 1 option for less than 5 coins in, they went crazy changing them all to 5 or more. Hopefully, this won't happen again, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if it did.

I am sure this is a huge mistake on Mohegan's part. Machines maybe 10 years ago had "chips" that had a preset paytable. Now, they are all owner/operator programmable. The 800/1 option is available on the software, but any slot manager worth his salt wouldn't enable 800/1 odds on a minimum bet.

I'd say take advantage as long as it lasts!

Agreed. This is definitely not the case on all the new machines that CET bought.

Went up there and played all last night on them. Spin Poker at the nickel level. Caught Deuces quads twice, a Natural Royal on 3 lines with 3 nickels in and some other good stuff. Was up about 300 and unfortunately greed and hope set in and I blew it all on the quarter Double Down Stud game. I had 3 chances at being dealt deuces quads on that game, but didn't get it. Would have been a grand if it had hit. Went home a minor loser. Wish some of you folks could come and play them. I did notice some suits talking quietly and looking at the machines while I was playing. I will advise if these paytables disappear. The deuces wild game I was playing was a poor 25/16/13/3/2/1 machine. I actually like that game because I don't have to try for the full house like the games that pay 4. I hardly ever get them when I go for them on that game. Hope it lasts. Lots of fun. I only had to put 3 twentys in and played all night.

For a time Fond du Luth in Duluth, Minn. had a bank of nickel IGT VP/keno machines that offered 800:1 RF for 1 coin in up to 25. Gone are the days. Even the best-return 6/5 BP nickel machines at Mystic Lake are now 20 coins for full pay.

Was up at Mohegan Sun last night and busted the budget trying for dealt deuces on the Double Down Stud game. I always keep a ten spot tucked away to play really small when this happens in case I just feel like playing some more. Anyway, as luck would have it, I was playing only 3 lines at a nickel a line on one of the new IGT machines on the spin poker Deuces Wild part of the menu. It hits a Royal after about 5 minutes on one of the 3 lines. At least it did give me the 800 for 1.

(i.e. not "rigged")!!!      right?!?!    Do you play mostly during the week (sun - Thur)  at Mohegan, or on the weekends (Fri-Sat)??    Notice any differences in how the machines play or hit?

Really, DB. Not only do VP machines have no memory, they have no calendar, either.

Now that's not true. The idiot slot tech at Monte Carlo went through its memory once for me and totally misunderstood my argument as well as his boss (the 25-hand STP machine max bet 150 credits, when you hit a button labeled "bet one".) If the machine is still screwed up like that in a couple of weeks, I will start another fight, time permitting, when I'm sober this time as I am staying at the hotel for a couple of days. Out of principle of course.

The first fight lasted an hour because they were stupid, and maybe I worded it badly because I was drunk at the time.

Now of course, the VP machine isn't supposed to use its memory to influence future results as that would be illegal in bunches of states...

I play all different days and times, but most of the play is late overnight or early AM. It is probably coincidence, but I have had the most hits between 4 AM and 6 AM when the casino is completely dead.
