Makes you want to scream!

Post by kfed »

We've all been there - seen it happen before to other folks - today it happened to me........
Sitting at the Monarch Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado. Playing quarter triple play. First machine, I lost $100 moved to another machine and someone comes along and hits $600 on my first machine. Another lady hit a $1000 royal on the second machine I played and yet a 3rd lady hit a $1400 progressive royal on the 3rd machine I played. I lost $500 and left. I know it's all random (supposedly) but that stings.

Yep kfed, we've all been there before and you can't let it get you down. Think about the times when you were playing and hit something nice; was there someone who just got off the machine that you hit and thought the same thing as you did today?   Keep your chin up and good luck.

agree with the the topic of your thread. i try not to see what has happened at machines i just left. one time i sat at a machine and immediately hit quad A w/kicker on DDB progressive. a lady came over and started complaining she had just left the machine and really, some of what i won was hers. because she complained, i gave her nothing. i have actually given someone a token amount, if i hit a big one and they were playing right before, if instead of complaining, they congratulated me.  after seeing how that lady reacted, i promised myself never to complain if someone won right after i left a machine. i also do something else anytime i hit a 4 of a kind or higher. i immediatley hit the play button and the machine payout advances to the full payout. i never want everyone to hear me winning, while others are losing, plus if it is a bigger payout, you do not want some crook knowing you just got a big payout.

notes I will not, ever; give a portion of my winnings to a person who comes up to me after I hit, complaining that they just left the machine.   I don't moan and complain if someone hits on a machine that I just left because I know the roles can be reversed. Several years ago I jumped onto the machine next to me after a guy left it and within minutes I hit a 1k royal. He came back up to me saying that the royal should have been his and I told him not to hover watching me play the machine. If he was angling for a "toke" from me, he has been waiting 8 years now.

ted, as i said, the lady who complained, got nothing. the few times i did give a token to the person who was on the machine before me was bit out of guilt, but mainly because they were classy about offering their congrats. good deeds deem a reward. i feel better about giving money for something people do not expect, than the AC server that looks at me like i am a hardened criminal, because i gave her 4 quarters for  bottle of water, instead a new dollar bill.

I understood who you gave the money to and why but when we go into casinos we go in knowing there is a certain amount of risk that we could lose money. I understand where you're coming from but I just wouldn't do the same thing. I once had a woman come up to me and panhandle after I got a 4k handpay. I told a casino executive who came by a couple minutes after it she tried to put the hook into me and it happens that they were looking for the woman becuase she was scouting out people who got handpays and was making the same request of them as she did me.

the folks i gave the small token to, were neither asking for it nor expecting it. the money i gave them was as much for my benefit as theirs. that is much different than encouraging panhandling, by giving money to them.

I've had my fair share of good hits on video poker, but what has been particularly frustrating is not hitting certain hands that I've seen from others hit around me.  For example, I play a good deal of QuickQuads $1 ten-play, where there is a bank of four machines.  Over the past six years (of playing there a couple of days a month on the average), I have seen three people get dealt Aces.  I've had dealt Aces, but never on the QuickQuads game.  Since I often play when none of the other machines are occupied, but probably on the average there is one other player, it seems like my time should have come by now.  I've had dealt Deuces probably 5 times, dealt 3's and 4's probably 3 or 4 times, all which are consistent with the number of hands I've played.  The other frustration is on the nearby SpinPoker (bank of 5); I play White Hot Aces, where Aces are worth $1200.  I've seen a couple of other people get dealt 4 Aces there.  Once again, I've had dealt 2's, 3's and 4's a few times, but never Aces!   Maybe someday, the Aces will occur at higher frequency, but that certainly has not been the case thus far.

My story has a little different twist. I was playing for hours on a machine next to a wonderful couple. Several times they had asked my help with difficult hands as they were fairly new players. I don't mind infrequent interruptions and knew they were just learning so I even gave them this site to join. Sweet C came by and I went to grab a bite and told them where we were going and wished them luck. Usually when I leave for just a few minutes for a break I leave my jacket to hold my place but not when we go to eat. I came back and the machines were all full except the one next to the couple I had been playing. They explained they had told several people I was coming back and were holding it for me. While I hadn't ask them to they were being gracious. About ten minutes later I was dealt my $10K RF. They were almost as excited as I was over the hit. I gave them a token of my appreciation when I left. Had they not held my machine fate would have been different.
