Played Cheap Strategy on Bonus DW (no jackpots)

Post by alpax »

Note: I played this system for fun and recreational purposes. I am not judging or proving any validity if it is a winning system. I accept the approach for the way it is.

I played this late last month in July, but have not gotten the chance to write up about it until now.

At the time I had $300 for my bankroll for the day (will not specify reason) so I felt it was a good time to play the cheap system. I tried it out on a different game instead of the game it was intended for, Bonus Deuces Wild. Difference being that the straight pays even money, but the 5 of a kinds payout a little more. Also quad deuces with an ace kicker will pay 400 for 1 instead of 200 for 1. The variance of the game is much higher, so the results might be different.

With 15 $20 bills in hand, 12 of them were used for regular Cheap play and 3 of them were used for potshot play

A single difference: Instead of single coin quarters, I went with max coin nickels. Instead of single coin dollars, I went with max coin quarters.

If the approach is correct, I start with $20, play single credit until I hit a 4 for 1 or better payout. A losing hand
will return to singe credit payout. When it gets past $25 mark, I move up in denomination. I cash out at $50.

There is a reason Phil suggests people to actually try this strategy out rather than criticize it on paper. Your bankroll goes in for a wild ride. Just when your $20 about to go bankrupt, a streak at max coin bet brings it back to the full $20 amount. Now that is entertaining!

Hits like these give you a shot in the arm to continue playing ...

Out of the 12 attempts, I cashed out 6 white tickets (3 of them close).

The only time I was able to cash out at the max bet dollar denomination

One of the best parts of Bonus Deuces Wild shown here

These were close to $50 so I cashed out anyways

I was able to play long enough to be able to hit the ducks! But at single credit ...

One thing I also did different than what FP normally does. I did the potshots all at once at the end.
Keno players who want a seat on the nickel/dime game kings are high in demand so I did not want to relinquish my seat.

The three pot shots did not turn out too good. A couple of straights and 3oaK to break even return, and just one 4oaK, but it did not last. Thus the potshots put me in the negative for the day, at least I got back more than half of what I came in with (which Phil considers a successful trip)

I totally understand it takes patience and discipline to reap the benefits the system, to be able to get a premium hit on a higher bet than the single credit. It was fun though.

I normally play video poker slowly if real money is at stake, at about 500 hands per hour which is slower than the pace Phil plays. I was able to play out all fiften $20 bills in just over 4 hours. The variance is high so the swings are bolder. To play an entire day's worth with Bonus Deuces Wild I conclude it requires $500 instead of $300, but I do not think you will lose it all quickly.

Great job of describing what a normal Cheap Strategy day looks like. The Cheap Strategy lowers your cash in but it does increase the variance.  Playing Bonus Deuces makes the variance even higher, so it definitely requires more money to play.   The pot shot thing is totally optional and I've had some great hits doing it.   It's addicting, so be careful.  If I don't go home with money it's almost always my fault because I got sucked into too many pot shots.Funny thing is I've tried the Cheap Strategy with non wild card games and for some reason it doesn't work.   I sometimes get bored with DW.   I love DDB but the variance is a bankroll killer.  I've played DDB all day with single coin quarters and have done pretty well overall. It takes so many more hands for DDB to even out, that you  need all those hands to keep from busting.   I guess I could increase my daily bankroll to $1,000 and take a chance at max coins, but what's the point?  I control the cost of admission and I like the senior discount...

I have done well playing 100 match free 100 with dimes on tdb hitting 200 and 400 dollar jackpots. More hands.

Nice report AL, so you are flipping the screen from 5 cent to 25 cent and back and forth playing 5 coins?I might have to give that a try. You are spot on with the word patience you need a ton of it to play this way. I have been doing it for a full year and it has been working great for me. Thanks again for the report.

Thanks wildman49. I tried this play again not too long ago with a better result. I will write that up soon when I get a chance.

It is not much of a hassle for me to change the denomination from max 5cents to max 25 cents. I played the strategy exactly to the tee. To switch denominations on Game King machines, I touch the yellow oval on the bottom middle with the denomination on the touch screen and NOT the More Games. A subscreen appears with the game and its denominations and I switch around like that. These are newer machines so it loads and switches up pretty quick.

What people do not know is the actual experience of playing this strategy is pretty fun.
What people do not know is the actual experience of playing this strategy is pretty fun.
Playing max coins, exiting the game on a 20 coin win, changing the denomination and reentering works just as well. It's not cheap to play this way, but it has a few advantages over the normal Cheap Strategy.   First, you don't give up the royal bonus.  Second, the hand strategy doesn't change because you are always playing max coins. Third, it slows your play and finally a 20 coin quarter win is $5 so a switch to max coin dollars does not cost you an additional coin.  I used to think exiting and entering the game would kill a good up streak, but I filed that away with the rest of my phobias. The fun factor is way up there every time you get to switch to $1s.  It's all good.
