Bob Dancer LasVegasAdvisor 10-20-2015 Article
This week's article from Mr. Dancer on LasVegasAdvisor does bring to light about problem gamblers, a topic I thought would never be explored.
It's a Matter of Money
While Mr. Dancer does not endorse the idea of playing video poker in a losing situation, the last paragraph of the article shows the support of money management, careful expenditures, and finances.
A problem gambler will always be in trouble if he or she cannot manage their finances correctly. It brings to light with FloridaPhil situation, who has done something about it with creating the CS to avoid further financial devastation.

[quote=alpax]It brings to light with FloridaPhil situation, who has done something

When I read on this forum that someone lost $50,000 last year playing video poker it makes me sad. If I did that my wife would divorce me and I wouldn't blame her. I also believe there are many players here that wouldn't have been man enough to admit it. Self control is a hard thing to master when the gambling industry and it's paid ambassadors keep boasting that they make serious money playing video poker games. It's a well laid out and financed plan, but you don't have to fall for it.

I think I get the gist of this article now since I reread it a few times. If people cannot bear losses with regards to their financial shape, it is advised to play video poker on a computer, such as this site.

Unless you're subsidized by casinos or some other related source, I believe video poker is a long term loser. Even if math says you won't, this is not a perfect world, no human being is infallible and eventually something will get in the way of your well crafted plans. You can win over a long period, but sooner or later the game will turn on you. I consider my loses to be the cost of entertainment. The cheapest cost is to play on this website. It's 100% free and you can play most any game you want for as long as you want. You will miss the occasional drunk, the smoke and the wallet swings, but the actual game is the same. If the programs on this website allowed you to play in money denominations instead of credits, It would be a lot better. Dancer's VPW does this and I play on it everyday.

No money no casino.
Easy for us to say I guess. Most problem gamblers are prime candidates for behavioral therapy.

FP "I believe video poker is a long term loser."
Unfortunately I believe for most vp players this is true. It's a two punch knock out: Lack of study and software, distractions, liquor, mistakes, and player error is one punch, the second punch is bad pay tables or lack of availability for positive video poker games.
Therefore some sort of CS system for these players who are not at a high level of expertise, who could not really care about losing about 1.5% ER in the royal flush bonus to the casino but just want to last awhile on the cheap, and just want to play some video poker with some friends and have some drinks comped, and /or the players who simply aren't going to find any better than 8/5 JOB, ugly deuces, or 7/5 bonus poker, is not a horrible idea imo. So I think there is a place for it, as well as the budget player who aren't adequately bankrolled long term or short.
HOWEVER, this is where we part company. I believe VP is a long term winner provided one makes sure the game or the game plus rewards, cash back, and such exceed 100% return. But that's not all. They also must practice practice and get skilled to a high degree the game they are playing. Software is a must! And they must have enough bankroll to survive the swings. That is where I'm in camp with Dancer.
So I guess I'm a moderate lol
But it's a good debate, I get where they both are coming from, and similiar to debating what is best: a strong or weak federal government, the CS/max coin debate will perhaps go till the end of time. But that's okay, just hit lots of Royal flushes
Cheers

Dan, I have 9/6 JOB and am a perfect player. But sans adequate bankroll, a couple of hours recreation is about all I can expect. Yesterday it was only nominal free play. By the time my coveted quad hit yesterday, I had already squandered most of it so I was stuck with a one coin pay out. Phil starts small and drops the hammer later. I start medium and large and scale back later, usually mistiming my opportunity! I saw a Sons of Anarchy slot hit for $974 on Sat, from a $0.60 bet. She just dropped from max bet, losing the $14,500 jackpot!

I believe my wife has the best overall recreational video poker strategy. She plays deuces wild single line max coin quarters. She knows correct hand strategy, but she makes her own decisions on how and when to play. She plays slowly and deliberately. She plays along side me most of the time. If she is having a good day, she stays. If she is losing, she goes shopping or goes to the spa. She quits when she becomes uncomfortable with her loses. Most trips she does better than me, except when I get crazy lucky or hit some wild pot shot. We're starting to take more side trips on our vacations and not spend the entire day with blood shot eye balls and I'm enjoying them now more than ever.

Most trips she does better than me,
I don't want to get too contentious here, but doesn't that suggest something about the different playing strategies?
