Recreational Epiphany
All this talk about EV, single vs. max coins, comps, promotions, raffles and winnable games has my mind spinning. This is what I'm going to do while we're in Reno next week. According to VPFree2.com Reno has plentiful NSU quarter deuces. I'm going to play max coins all week $20 at a time. This will allow me to play a 99.7% game all week. For excitement, I am going to exit the game and switch to max coin dollars each time the counter reaches $25 and return to max coin quarters at $20. I played this way last weekend at the Hollywood Hard Rock and actually did pretty well. I never hit a royal or a $1,000 quad deuce, but did hit numerous $125 wild royals and $75 5-of-a-kinds that made a difference. I realize this could cause me to lose more money long term, but at least I won't have to sweat hitting short coin royals. Any input?

I say good idea as long as you have those really good pay tables. I also like the idea that I use on cash getting low days of cashing out and playing 5 coins on the lowest denomination machine I can find. I have done this recently since I wasn't ready to go home and hit a Royal, deuces quads, and 5 of a kind on Joker Kings on a 2 cent spin machine. I am also fortunate in another play situation that few if any in the country can take advantage of. Mohegan Sun has one bank of machines that has nickel and up games where they pay 800 for just a nickel for the Royal on all of the games featured on the spin poker option. I have yet to see anyone post about this option anywhere else. Playing 3 lines for fifteen cents also keeps the blood pressure down because you don't see the hands you missed.
As posted recently, as soon as the budget allows, I am going to devote several sessions to single coin dollar play to sort of prove or at least lead credence to my theory that the casino is allowing most premium hands to hit at bet one and have paltry hits at bet 5 or more. The absolute worst premium hand frequency I have been seeing up there is at max bet 25 which the few remaining die hard vp players play all of the time.
Edited to add...If I read your post correctly Phil, going to max coin dollars when you have twenty five bucks in the machine only gives you 1 miss if you hit nothing on the first try. I would more likely play 5 quarters until I had 4 net misses which would return me to twenty bucks. I understand your thinking though because if you were already playing 5 quarters to build up to that twenty five bucks, you would not be doing anything differently and miss that pot shot opportunity.

Sounds like a good plan. Good luck to you and your spouse and happy anniversary.
If you are going to venture outside of the state to play VP, Reno, Blackhawk-CO and SouthPoint are the only places you should ever consider.

I can't get my mind around how they would do this, but it sure seems like single coin pays better on the machines I play. I know this is a ridiculous assumption, but those quad deuces and royals keep popping up like clockwork except when I play max coins. I keep telling myself it's not happening, but there it is. I think I'm going to play max coins all the time now and watch my results closely. I hope I haven't taken all the royals out of the machines with my short coin play. I was accused of "screwing up the whole row" a couple of weeks ago by a lady player watching me hit a slew of single coin jackpots!

The conspiracy for rigged machines has expanded to Connecticut?
For deuces wild, I see a good amount of 5 of a kinds and wild royals each time I play. The quad deuces has appeared 3 times for me this year, last year it did not show up at all.

PHIL I also felt I needed to give max bet a try. After all the chatter on here the last few weeks. On OCT. 25th before work I went for a few hours and played only 9/6 JOB. Out of the blue I hit a royal, what a shocker. Left up $860. Went 3 more times since playing the same JOB and just a few hands of 16/10 DW.Oct. 26....down $90Oct. 27...down $75Nov.1... up $150Heading out today for some play. Happy Anniversary and good luck on your trip!

Phil...I think we both have played enough zillions of hands to get what we call a " feel " for the premium hands hitting at bet 1 much more percentage wise than at max bet. I forgot to cancel my room up at Mohegan tonight, so I guess I will have to just run back up there so I don't get charged for it. While there of course....Hmmmmm...I might as well start my first session at bet 1 on the dollars for a few hours and see what happens. If this works out the way I think it will, like I posted before, the casino can still say they are hitting the proper number of hands according to what the math frequency would say they should be. It is just that most will be at bet 1. With today's software, I think anything is possible. Of course this is an assumption on my part for now. I will need hundreds of thousands of hands and maybe at least a year of play or more to firmly state that the premium hands are hitting more often at bet 1. Time will tell. In the meantime, good luck, Happy 50th and many more to go. Hi to the Mrs. too.
