FloridaPhil About Reno
Hi Phil. I read that you will be coming to Reno so thought I would give you some info. Wife and I have been on long road trip across the country and just left Reno. We did enjoy Reno and stayed a few days at Harrahs, only because of free rooms. The Harrahs casino was dead and had terrible pays. The diamond lounge was the worst I have ever seen. However we played else where. The El Dorado was hopping at night and a fun place and it was right acrossd the road from Harrahs. Decent games. The best and nicest place was Peppermill with Atlantis a close second. Peppermill had good paytables and very clean. Felt like a Vegas casino. These two casinos are away from the others and you need a car. We also stayed at a Peppermil at Wendover Nevada as well. Atlantis had full pay DW at nickels and also LDW at 25 cents. I did not see any full pay games at Peppermill but lots of games over 99.5%. Silver Legacy also had some full pay games but we did not go there. The best place for odds we found so far was in Carson City at a casino called Fandango. A real locals joint and we had a blast.Went to Lake Tahoe but never gambled. Beautiful area but roads in and out are mountain driving with lots of sharp curves. Not for the faint of heart! We are currently in Laughlin are where we have a house rented for the month of November. Lots of casinos in Laughlin and many retirees in the area. We will make two jaunts up to Vegas during our stay to go in a couple of VP tournaments as well.I think you will enjoy Reno and wish you great luck. ( I left some money behind for you to win).

Reno is one of my all time favorite places, not just to play but simply to visit and hang out.....when I lived on the west coast (primarily Los Angeles), my work often had me traveling and living in Northern California (primarily San Francisco, San Jose and Sacramento) for weeks at a time, and during these periods I would often take 3 or 4 day vacations to Reno and Tahoe. Its such a picturesque area to visit and live, and I love the atmosphere and the people a lot more than Vegas. One huge difference for me back then was that, while I lived and worked in Los Angeles (1992 thru 2007-ish), that job often would also send me to Vegas for business purposes, such that I often was in Vegas Not to have fun but to work......obviously this influenced when I would have time to play in Vegas in that I was already familiar with the place and knew where I wanted to go and what to do when "fun time came"......many times I would work on a project or with a customer in Vegas during The week (from Wednesday to Friday afternoon). then I would leave/checkout of the condo my company kept for Vegas Work and check IN to wherever I was staying that weekend, and that is where I'd be until either Late Sunday night or first thing Monday (depending on whether I flew or drove from Los Angeles to Vegas)......This was not the case when I was working out of the S.F. Bay Area....I had almost no actual business in Reno (maybe 2 or 3 projects total in a ten year span from 1995 thru 2005), so when I actually went to Reno it was truly to relax and kick back after a hectic week in the San Fran Bay area.......One particularly BUSY year, in 2003, I spent the second half working mostly in the SF bay area; I had accrued a LOT of vacation time at the company I worked for, and they insisted I actually take and use a chunk of it instead of cashing it in or continue "saving it"......so, in addition to my 'normal' vacations that year, I decided to take and schedule a BUNCH of three day weekends during football season from September thru December.....Almost EVERY WEEKEND during this time (09/2003 - 12/2003) I took Monday off and spent the majority of those long weekends in RENO!!! I loved it.......I used to love the old Reno "Fitz" (Fitzgerald's); It is long gone now of course, but as I remember during the period (2001 thru 2003), it was a popular LOCALS casino, so naturally I did pretty well playing video Poker during this period. The old "LIMERICK's" steakhouse in the old FITZ was a hidden Gem in Reno's culinary scene.

Thanks for the information. We're staying at the Peppermill all week except for a couple of scenic days in Tahoe. We picked the Peppermill after lots of good recommendations from this forum. Looks like a nice place and the odds are way better than we're used to. We're not expecting much in the way of video poker in Tahoe, but we'll play the best they have. It's still in the high eighties in Florida and we're ready for some cooler weather, maybe even a little snow.

As I mentioned previously, there is a reasonable selection of single line 8/5 bonus poker at Harrahs and Harveys. And, if you want to go nuts, try the 50 line 9/6 JOB in the high limit room at Harrahs! You can play any number of lines, at 25c, 50c, or $1. Harrahs also has triple line 9/6 JOB for dollars.
