A Question for Bob Dancer

Post by onemoretry »

I am currently staying at South Point. Last night, I was wandering around the casino and stopped to watch the play on the four quick quads machines for a few minutes.

The person at the left end of the bank was playing double double bonus poker for 10 line dollars.

Would that have been you? It was about 10:15 pm.

Would that have been you? It was about 10:15 pm.Yes. I got there at 11:30 p.m. Sunday (because there was a promo that ended at midnight if you are a local and they have your email address) and i played until 6 a.m. I went home, slept, ate, exercised, did some honey-do's, and returned at 4:30 p.m. All the machines were busy (of course!) and I negotiated for a machine starting at 6 p.m. I played $2 NSU in the meantime. With a 0.6% slot club and $10K coin-in/hour it's worth a little more than $30 hourly. There are higher-EV machines available, but that was the highest paying one with a view of the QQ machines in case a machine opened up early.I played solidly from 6 p.m. until midnight. In total I ran $350K thru the machines. It would have been more but during double point days it takes extra time for them to process W2Gs.By 10:15 p.m. I was pretty tired and a bit disheveled, I'm sure, but I was still playing alertly and the game is worth about $80/hour on double point days (with significant swings) so I was playing as many hours as I could. One of the main reasons I exercise regularly is so I can survive these marathon sessions. (I'm 68 years old now --- it's harder than it used to be.)A player who doesn't think video poker is applied math or a game of skill wouldn't behave this way. (He would probably be at home composing a post about what a good deal CS is!) But this was a better than average opportunity and smart players make hay while the sun shines!

Edited: Ignore this post as there was a response.

I recall Mr. Dancer stating on the GWAE radio show on double point days, he shows up at late night before the clock strikes midnight to reserve a seat on one of those 4 QQ (fills up the credits on the machine with $100 bills) and starts playing once the holiday starts.

The locals who have the bankroll play this high variance game too as Mr. Dancer described this play to the public and during the seminars.

Bob I would love to hear how you would play a monthly promo with a $100,000 pot at the end that one person is gonna take home. Since most of us don't have the bankroll for these kinda promos to make a run at them, I just wanted to see a pro's monthly play, a glimpse  in your world. Here is the promo:Five winners each hour from 6PM to 10PM will each win $1,000 in Premium
Play and 1,000 Bonus Entries into the $100,000 Grand Prize drawing at
the end of that months drawing . $100,000 Grand Prize Drawings will be
at 11pm on January 30th, February 27th and March 26th, 2016

Players Club members who play between 12AM and 11:59PM on Mondays in January will earn 3x the entries.

Must be a Players Club member to participate. Receive one entry for
every 200 points beginning December 26 - January 30. Promotion for
January ends on January 30 at 10:55PM.
Tuesdays, January 5, 12, 19 and 26 visit us and
earn 600 points playing your favorite slots with
your Access card from 8:00AM until 11:59PM.

You'll then qualify to play a game on our promotional
kiosks and win up to 1,000 Bonus Entries into
January's Mortgage Madness drawings.A little quarter player has no chance in hell at a shot at $100,000. Now someone with your bankroll could make a run at it. Would you play $1 or $5? How many hours a week would you play to earn entrees? What size of bankroll is needed? Or is this promo to costly to make a run at it ? I know there are other factors as to why or how you play but in general how would a pro play this?

Bob I would love to hear how you would play a monthly promo with a $100,000 pot at the end that one person is gonna take home.

I would need LOTS more information than what you presented --- included pay schedules and denominations, slot club benefits, what are typical mailers, are there extra benefits for becoming "diamond" or whatever the highest tier is called, who's the competition, and what other prizes are offered. If I wasn't local to the casino, I wouldn't be interested. Even if I had all this information, it would require a lot of work to come up with a game plan. I'm not interested in spending that much work on a hypothetical situation. On occasion I have run such an analysis on a promotion for a high stakes player --- for a price based on $250/hour. As a quarter player, it wouldn't be cost effective for you to spend $1000 or more to have me work this out for you.

I fail to understand why I should care about what your wife is doing when I'm in a casino.Insofar as my wife being happy with my "game plan," she is. We came together fairly recently and she was well versed into what my hours would be before she said "I do." She knows, for example, that Christmas Day is often one I spend in a casino. She gets her personal Christmas a few days before or after. She also knows that she'll get four weeks a year of cruising on the casino's dime. (In 2015, we spent three weeks in Europe and 15 days on a cruise to Hawaii out of Los Angeles). She gets four or five additional 3-4 day trips "somewhere" while I'm chasing my dream. She gets 2-3 nights a week of square dancing and perhaps 6 nights a month of social dancing. She gets show tickets twice a month --- I go with her about a fourth of the time (I've seen 400 shows in Vegas in the past 25 years and that's more than enough for me), and she goes with her sister or a girlfriend to the other shows. )She knows where her husband is at all times and she's told beforehand what my schedule will be on any particular day.And you claim you wouldn't recommend her life to anyone? Don't tell Bonnie that. She thinks her life works pretty well! This is simply another case where FP is giving advice about something he knows nothing about. I hope his wife is okay with putting up with a preachy husband. Because that's what she's got!

Gosh!  Sounds like I hit a nerve on that one.  My wife plays right
beside me most of the time, so she doesn't have to worry where I am in
the middle of the night.  That's not the issue here.  The man asked if you were playing at a certain casino along with some good questions that you could have answered with some class.  Instead, you decided to take a pot shot at me and CS.   Over and over again I have stated that CS is not in conflict with any of your strategies because you don't have a strategy for 98% and under games.  Oh I forgot, you're strategy is not to play them at all which is the same as no strategy.   I enjoy our banter, but even I have to admit you need to get a new punchline. We all agree you are the exalted "Grand Poobah"  of video poker.  What baffles me is why a 68 year old guy who claims to have made millions playing a slot machine is still hanging around casinos in the middle of the night.  You should slow down a bit, you'll live longer.

If I had a dollar for everyone who thinks Bob Dancer has made millions (net) playing video poker, I would be worth millions.
