Playing blindfolded
Let's say you had to play blindfolded. Obviously if you decide to hold something it wouldn't matter which spots since the odds are the same for any card there (1st card, third, etc).
So first, if you are just dealing and there is no sound how would you get the best return... holding zero, 1,2,3 4, or 5 each time?
Then let's add sound to the puzzle. You hear no sound on the deal, what do you hold? But the next time you hear the chime that you are holding a winner of some kind in your hand. What then?

I've always found it slightly amusing that the drive-up ATM's have braille on their keypads.

1st question - wouldn't matter-same result irregardless.2nd - keep the winner. The value of any win is more than the expected value of 5 unknown cards.

(Laughing) I've never noticed that. They're probably just complying with generic government regs that cover access to public devices that have keypads. Or maybe it's just cheaper for the ATM manufacturers to make their keypads one way that covers all ATMs.

Yes, but you don't know which cards in your hand make up the winner so what do you hold? 2 random cards? three?
Are you saying hold all 5? That's probably it, huh.

Absolutely. I've never heard of a machine that had a minimum pay less than your bet. The value of a new hand is, of course, the pay table return. But a redraw hand returns , like, 30 Cents. Go to a hand analyzer and checkthe EV of a redraw. It will vary only slightly based on your throws. The valueof a guaranteed pay is greater than the lowest pay of 1.

I didnt notice that question 2 was questions 2 and 3. question 2 - 1 card or nothing - you can't do worse on a redraw thanwhere you are. It hurts nothing to hold 1 card only.

Depends on the game Eduardo. You know what game I'm really talking about! There are games that cost you one credit to get the bonus. Super Times Pay might be one of these...I'm not that familiar with it.With these games, hearing a "tinkle" for a winning hand might not return the total amount of the amount wagered if you held all cards. Say on a 5-line game that costs 6-credits per line for maximum bet instead of 5, you would win 25 credits but would have wagered 30. Same thing with 2-pair on these games.

Are you guys telling me that if I got drunk and told someone I could beat them at VP blindfolded, it might be a bad idea?

Drunk is not the bad idea here.
