"The fact is, the more I play the more likely I will win over time and the more I should win. " Shadowman! Thanks for suggesting I learn a positive expectation game. It has a made a tremendous difference in my attitude. Kudos for all your help.

I'll have to admit I've gotten spoiled by having positive games available to me all the time. I haven't played a negative expectation situation in several years. I know this is not common all over the country and that I'm very fortunate.
For those who don't have this luxury, keep looking for the best paytables and take advantage of every comp you can find.

I have a question. How much difference is there between the practice software on this site and the Zamzow/winpoker software? I noticed some of the suggested correct plays/ holds are different between them.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Zamzow's WinPoker tries to calculate the hold that has the highest Expected Value. Although this site's VPFW can also identify such plays (it calls them Perfect Play), it alternatively can be set to make what it calls the best "Strategy" plays from a strategy list. Many experts and most beginners find that it is less confusing to use strategy lists. A strategy list is a relatively short number of holds (usually 25 to 50) arranged from top to bottom so that if you pick the cards in the dealt hand associated with the topmost hold that you can find on the strategy list, you will usually get the hold with the highest expected value and, when you don't, you will generally get a hold close to the highest expected value. If you want VPFW to be closer to WinPoker, you can click on the Training Style tab in VPFW and then look for "Play Against >" and then select "Perfect Play." You may still find some different holds, but these will be very rare. For example, sometimes there are two holds in the same hand that are tied for the highest expected value. In these cases, different software use different criteria for determining which hold to select. Usually, the user can pick either hold without triggering an error message. Although, theorectially a strategy list can be completed to be consistent with Perfect Play (e.g., Perfect Play with Full Pay (9/6) Jacks or Better has relatively few exceptions to a Strategy List), in many cases a Perfect Play list would have a lot more lines and be too complex for many people. They often reason that the complexity is not worth the small extra that you can get in expected value.

Thanks for clarifying that. I guess it all goes according to what I want. Max EV or near perfect play.

Thank you everyone for your input regarding bankroll discipline. I must admit being much more carefree in my younger years. That obviously includes trips to the ATM. Now I am trying to have more discipline with how much I spend. My goal is to play often but responsibly. I know that to most people that this forum would appeal to that this is the goal. To others, the thought of playing responsibly and often would probably be a conflict of terms since they would probably associate often to being a problem.
Yes Shadowman, you are lucky to have positive games in your location. I live in Cally (the land of short pay machines). I can find 9/6Jacks but that game does not interest me. The cashback around my area would not make this game a positive play anyway. For this reason I choose 9/6 DDB. Atleast I get excitement with this one and the fact I play it perfect at the strategy level gives me a chance. Of course, many of you will laugh at this one but I have not had one positive year with this game. I do not even know if this is possible.

Oh, it's "possible" but more than likely, you'll have to play a lot more than "just a little bit" to give it a chance to even out with its high variance!Just look at the results on Quick Quads where you are playing 5 hands at a time! There are very often periods in play where you are 3,000 credits in the hole before you hit a "jackpot" hand. On Single Line, I've gone through more than a thousand hands without hitting a major hand. It's not difficult at all to end up behind the 8-ball on DDB, but if you play it right, and it sounds like you do, then eventually, you'll come close to breaking even. Of course at 9/6, you are bucking a pretty bad house advantage. High 98's if I remember correctly (98.98% actually.)

Near perfect play and cashback/comp values help to even the playing field but DDB (i like it too) is difficult to right the ship unless you're extremely lucky. Ijust play to enjoy and hopefully,WIN! Best of luck here in the Golden State!

I have recently started to play only the coupon sent to me by a casino. Example: I am sent twenty-five dollars from casino A. I play with that twenty-five dollars until it is either gone or I have raised it up to a $100. If it reaches a $100 then I cash out and keep back fifty and play on the rest until it once again has reached $100 or I have hit bottom.
This method has worked well for me and so far I have not seen smaller coupon offers. I would not be surprised if that were to happen in three or four months since I may play less on a given day.
