Change of venue

Post by Tedlark »

So I recently got an offer from Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, IN to come down for a visit as it had been a couple years since I was last there. They sent a moderately enticing "We miss you" offer: $200.00 in free play; $100.00 steakhouse comp; and, a free nights lodging. Because it had been so long since I had last been there I decided on Monday 3/5 to book the offer for Saturday 3/17, St. Patrick's Day.

On Thursday 3/8 the thought suddenly, and without warning, HIT me: "Lawrenceburg, Indiana on St. Patrick's Day? Are you batty Tedlark? I then thumbed through my Caesars offers and I came upon one for tickets to see Reba McEntire with Brooks and Dunn along with 3 free nights. TALK ABOUT LUCK OF THE IRISH!Book it baby! St. Patrick's Day in Las Vegas seeing Reba and those other two guys, sweet(16). I canceled the Hollywood plans and besides: that Hollywood offer is good until the end of April so I can still do it.

Booked a flight and rental car too.

Arrived Las Vegas McCarran at 7:25 pm. I went to Enterprise to grab my previously booked Cadillac. I was told that they were out of Cadillacs and in my best Chili Palmer I said "No, I booked a Cadillac." They said "we apologize but for the same money we can offer you - a BMW 4 Series convertible." I said "that would be, um, ok and that I would somehow manage my disappointment." Got the car and headed off to Rio where I was staying for the next couple nights, obeying(?) the speed limit all the way. Gigglesnort.

Checked in and after depositing my luggage I spritzed and decided to just hang at Rio for the night and play there. I was a bit tired and I figured it would be an easy way to get a jump on some tier credits to go toward my "watered down" diamond status for 2019.

I found a familiar bank of 3/5/10 play machines and began play. I was down about a thousand bucks when I held a pair of 4's; caught the other pair on the draw along with an ace for a nice 2k hand pay. Not 15 minutes after getting paid from the 4's I was dealt trip aces, caught the 4th ace and a 4 on the draw for a nice nice 4k hand pay. Feeling really happy by now I was playing for a while when up popped quad 8's on the deal for another nice nice nice hand pay of 2.5k. Not wanting to break the momentum while waiting to get paid for the dealt 8's I'm dealt another pair of 4's and catch the other 2 fours with a 3 for a nice nice nice nice hand pay of 2k for my 4th hand pay of the night. Not wanting to go to bed feeling like I didn't accomplish anything I stuck around and caught AWAK (AA4AA) for a second time for a nice nice nice nice nice hand pay of 4k. The machine started to take a bit back so I decided to try my luck at a nearby Quick Quads machine and I managed to turn a little $400.00 profit getting back about half of what I just lost. Now it was bedtime for Ted.

After a good night's rest I woke Saturday morning a bit hungry. After a quick shower the Rio buffet took care of my hunger pains with a plate of scrambled eggs, 3 link sausages, and some hash browns. I then jump in my disappointing rental and head south on I-15 to M. Getting there I find that they moved my favorite Dream Card machine but I managed to find some. I sat down at one and began play. Within 5 minutes I was dream carded quad 4's and got 1 kicker for 1.1k. Nice way to start my day. These particular machines do not have TDB so I had to settle for playing DDB. I played a couple more hours and was dealt various quads 3 other times during my play. I walked out of M up a nice chunk o' green (it was St. Patrick's Day of course) and went back to Rio for a short nap before catching Reba and those other 2 guys.

After my nap I got cleaned up and headed over to Caesars for the show. I did eat at the Caesars buffet and had some very good prime rib (I think they were out of lobster?) and a couple very tasty elk sliders.

Picking up my concert ticket I was a bit disappointed, much in the same manner as I was at Enterprise with my rental car, to find out that I was WAAAY back in the 10th row center. How was I to manage???

Reba with Brooks and Dunn did not let me down, the show was fantastic. There's an obvious chemistry between Reba, Kix and Ronny. Ronny managed a couple KFC jokes at Reba's expense too, which was cute. The show lasted a little over 2 hours.

Once the show ended I decided to play a bit at Caesars even though the place was a MADHOUSE and really, really crowded. I sat down at a 3/5/10 play machine that had Deuces Wild Bonus on it and began play. Within 2 minutes I hit 5 aces for $400.00, cashed out right then up $475.00. I had it in my mind that I was going back to M so I jumped in my beater rental and back to M I headed.

Sadly upon arrival to M I found the machine I was playing earlier in the day to be occupied by a lady who had a little over a grand on the meter so I knew she wasn't going anywhere soon. More disappointment. I sat down at the machine next to her and began play. I was quickly dealt 4 queens for $625.00 so I upped my denomination to 50 cent. The meter was heading a bit south until I was dealt quad 10's for a sweet $1,250.00 hand pay. I then gave a bit back but not much. Dropped back to .25 denom and got dealt 6's for $625.00 so I got some of it back.

I then decided to head back to Rio. I was going to go to the Strip but it was just way too crowded. Getting back to Rio I went back to my bank of 3/5/10 play machines. I managed to dump $1,000.00 without getting a single set of quads, any quads. I then went to bed, mad at myself for dumping the 1k back.

Woke up Sunday morning with the intention of not playing too much, if at all. After getting showered and dressed I ate again, at the Rio buffet. The scrambled eggs, sausage links, and has browns were the same as the day before. I then went outside and picked up a copy of the Sunday Las Vegas Review Journal to leisurely read back in my room. Getting that done it was time to pack my dirty underwear and check out of Rio. Because I had arranged late checkout (2:00 pm) I was able to take my time.

After checking out I decided to take a drive over to Sam's Town. I decided to play small ball and found a .05 denom Quick Quads machine. After playing for an hour I found myself up exactly $2.75. Now it was time for my ritual Sourdough Bacon Cheeseburger from Jack in the Box. Don't ask me why it's a ritual but I've been doing it for many years.

To McCarran Airport I go. Getting through TSA I find my flight delayed 45 minutes. Departure time close to 9:00 pm. After getting bored walking up and down Terminals A and B I decided to try my luck at a 3/5 play machine, I set a loss limit of $200.00 for myself. I began playing Airport Deuces and after getting down $100.00 I switched to TDB. I was rewarded 3 hands later by getting dealt trip fours and catching the other 4 along with an ace on the draw for a $500.00 hit. I immediately cashed out up $387.50. Then sat around until departure time and landed back in Chicago at 1:45 am tired but VERY happy.

Thanks everyone; it was a fun, quick trip, hastily thrown together and sometimes those end up being the best.

Car - thanks and um, pass.

Been along time since Sweet C and I've been to Vegas. I guess will have to make a trip out there again someday.

PS. Since its been a long time since I posted can you give me some advice on posting smaller pictures. I can't remember what I used to do to reduce them.

Thanks Double L a d again, congrats to you and yours on your recent wins. A few here have recommended using postimmage.org and that's what I used. You upload your pictures there and you can then copy and paste them here using the picture attachment feature, you just need to delete the http:\ that automatically pops up. One word of caution though: apparently using postimmage.org allows some occasional pictures of some scantily clad women to be seen if someone clicks on the pictures you posted.

My brother in law just picked up a couple year old BMW 6 Series convertible and I can definitely see why he loves the car.
