Re: RNG Questions
Back to the RNG thing... We all know the RNG is continually spinning before we hit the deal button, and then again until we hit the draw button. Just like a slot machine, but with 52 cards in the deck. Can the RNG be manipulated? You bet. There are ways to do this whether it is directly though the machine or through the central control servers. What would happen if a casino got caught? Anything from a fine to possibly getting their gaming license yanked. Now from what I have been told from a casino floor manager, if you request a machine gets tested because you think it is not on the up and up, you can do so. They will shut the machine down, call the NGCB to have the chip removed, and have the results in about 45 days. I have also heard that the NGCB has a "squad" who will visit casinos throughout the state, unannounced, and will randomly test any given machine or bank of machines at any given time. I have seen this once at the Orleans several years ago where they roped off a bank of All Star 3-5-10-play machines that were near the cashier cage.
I firmly believe that todays machines are geared tighter to just fly right under the legal requirements set forth by the NGCB in the casinos favor, regardless of the paytable. We are seeing less and less of what we used to several years ago. Thing is that they can do this, and if I choose to play, then I have to accept this and just bite my tongue when I blow through several hundred bucks without hitting any "fish" (quads). When me and my wife play, we call it "going fishing". The quads are named after, yep, you guessed it ... fish, named after the colors on the All Star 10 play machines. Four 5-Ks are salmon, four 2,3,4s are dolphin, and it makes it a little more fun when playing. Banks are "fishing ponds" and money is "fishing lure". Just need to find a "fish finder" than can find more of those four aces with kickers (a Deep Purple, yes, named after the band).
On Mr. Dancer, he has given us many tools and resources on how to maximize and get the biggest bang for our buck when playing, like on the best paytables, point multiplier days, which cards to hold and discard, etc. He never mentioned that we are guaranteed to beat the casino. I for one am grateful for what he has done. Some people seem to envy him and I don't know why when all he has done is helped us become more knowledgeable and better players.

I try to choose my words carefully. The problem is some members don't read my entire post. They read a few words and draw their own conclusions. A few members immediately dispute anything on this forum they perceive as a threat to their own beliefs.
None of my comments have any relationship to near positive VP games. Positive VP does not exist in the world I play in. My comments are directed to players who have only negative games to play and have watched their comps slowly disappear. This is the reality of video poker in the last 10 years. The players who still have decent games to play are fortunate. This is definitely not the case in most of the country today.
Complaining about this does nothing to help the situation. If you are going to play video poker today, you must address this issue head on. Your choice is to walk away, adjust how you play or let the casino dictate the cost. This discussion has value to today's players, especially new players who have never seen a game where that have an edge on the casino. The Recreational Forum is the place for these discussions.
I do not believe the RNG is being tampered with or manipulated. There is no need to increase the casino's edge beyond what they can do with the odds and the comps. My own assessment is we have just begun to see the degrading of the odds and player's benefits. Until the casino's profit on video poker matches the slot return, this will continue. The estimated house return on slots where I play is around 90%.

Some people are perfectly content to play full coin on negative games. They get free room, free food, tournament invites, draws and even a few gifts. There is more to playing VP then just turning a profit. They would get none of this by playing small coins....and they would still lose.
Casinos have no need to cheat. Sure it is possible but the penalty could be more than the profit.

That's where I am now. If you play short coin video poker, I can tell you from experience the casino will cut your comps or eliminate them entirely. We value comped rooms and use them frequently to take mini vacations. My free play is about $25 a week. We never pay for food in the coffee shops or for drinks. These comps do not come close to covering our losses, but we enjoy them enough to play max coins.

I have to agree Sea Lion. These new machines have some kind of new RNG that seems to give more dead hands. We had 3 banks of older VP machines taken out. They said they could not get parts for them any more. Funny thing was I never once saw a machine down.Sea Lion wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2019 8:43 amBack to the RNG thing... They put in new style VP machines. They put the same games, same denominations on them. All the regular players that once played these machines day in day out are gone. The workers told my buddy this and he sees them not there any more. I have played them but a small amount and what a difference from the old machines.
I know they are a server base casino, so not sure how or what it does. In any event I have to look for other machines to play and its getting harder to find friendly RNG's.
