Re: Video Pokeritis??
Hey AWAK (Aces With A Kicker)....33 last week! When you get to be my age, those pains serve to let you know you're still alive
33 years? I've had dry spells at some casinos longer than that.
I must not be quite as old as some of the people here. My hurts still go away after a week...uh, sometimes two weeks...ok, ok, three weeks.

Wow.....that's some dry spell!!
Yeah, maybe my hurts would go away if I'd take a break instead of grinding it out for hours and hours. But at least I'm up so far for the year........oh, wait..... it's only Jan. LOL! One down, 11 to go!

You might want to ask the casino you play in to install wrist supports on those uprights. They are not that expensive and really do keep players at the machines longer ... in other words, they are a boon to the casinos' bottom line.
It also turns out the chair height is important as well, the higher you are the easier it is on the shoulders and wrists (although it can be tougher on the back).
Finally, I try to keep my right hand on the machine creating as much friction as possible so I can relax the wrist. Some of the older uprights have the bill readers real handy and I actually hold onto part of it. The more you can relax, the less stress and the less likely you will incur an injury.
PS. 33 ????????????? I thought gray hair was a prerequisite to get into the door of a casino. You must really lower the average age of the casino patrons when you show up.

Good advice Shadow. Thanks! And yes, there are plenty of "seasoned citizens" where I play, but a good mix of age groups also. On the days they have drawings, it's like a geriatric convention !! But I have always been of the mindset that there is much to be learned from the "experience" of older people.

Alright now Aces, who you callin older? The truth is that any amount of time spent a machine unless its a slant top is gonna cause you pains because of the non-ergonomical chairs and positions(ever notice people slouched with both legs up?). A carpal wrist brace might help but the rolling wrist excersizes semm to help me a lot on some of my marathon gaming sessions.I remember being 33 and doing things alot easier back then too! Enjoy your youth and stop sniveling about aches and pains

*** UPDATE ***
For those who care, I did recently purchase one of those wrist braces. I tried it out this weekend at the casino and it did help quite a bit. It is a little bothersome and took some getting used to, but no where comparable to my previous aches without it. Maybe it will allow me the time to heal and play without it again. I played about 7 hours with it on. I recommend one to those who haven't tried it yet and are experiencing severe wrist pains while playing extended sessions.

Speaking of little aches. Around 10-15 years ago I started having significant stiffness in my muscles. I just couldn't get loose when I tried to bowl, golf, etc. This went on for a couple of years and my doctor just recommended anti-inflamatories. They didn't help. I thought it was just getting older. I probably wouldn't have found the cause except that I decided to change a medication I was taking since it wasn't working as well as I would have liked. The stiffness went away in a short time. Only at that time did I make the connection (and it was listed as a possible side effect). The problem was these symptoms didn't start immediately when I went on the medication.
Not sure what the moral is here other than always be vigilant to what our bodies are telling us. I probably should have considered this medication as a source.
