Re: panic??
one possible positive outcome from the virus out break. between the problems that resulted from trump imposing tariffs on china (for unfair business practices) and the damage caused by the virus, our country and others will need to rethink their relationship and dependency on china. corporate leaders around the globe are going to have to reexamine the 'costs' of dealing with a communist country, that operates the way it does. corporations will need to decide if having so much of their supply chain running through a country that mandates strict government controls, chinese ownership and theft of american intellectual property.
and, if corporations are either too stupid or greedy to do it on their own, elected american politicians may well force them to make adjusts. never again can we be so dependent on a foreign enemy for much of our medications and other vital needs.
in the long run, this may very well cost the chinese dearly. and, maybe, we will see an increase in american corporations bringing more manufacturing back home.

Yes, I think China will be the biggest loser when the dust settles. I know we must avoid gatherings of 10 or more, but everyone get out for some fresh air and exercise. Walked 4 miles thru the woods at a Boy Scout camp yesterday afternoon near my daughters house. Funny, but the animals have no idea what is going on. Just going about their everyday business.

Ditto's to Notes and Car, if the countries of the world unite behind the idea of forcing China to stop breeding virus problems it will have to be done economically.

Ditto. Heading down to the beach now to get my power walk in. Can’t go visit dad in assisted-living due to restrictions. Too nice to stay in the house. Hope that fresh salt air doesn’t have any critters traveling with it

for those who are retired and have money invested in bond mutual funds, have you checked the ytd returns lately? it has been a little over 4 weeks, since stocks and stock funds started taking a hit and bond funds did fine, until about 2 weeks ago. now, bond funds are also taking a beating, including munis.
while i have no money in utilities, just checked, and this sector, another favorite of retired folks are down more than 20% for the year.
i don't own any individual stocks but others like to invest for the dividends. just checked exxon, which not that long ago was priced near $80, is now trading in mid $30's.
and of course, with the FED lowering interest rates, fixed return products also suck.
not many places to escape.

Nope, no place to hide. Have no choice to stay positive and ride it out. I think there is a distinct possibility that this will be a quick and explosive recovery.

not sure if the story is true, but there are reports that a couple of US SENATORS, received early info on the coronavirus, and it's possible effects on the world. these senators came from both parties. as a result of the early warnings they received, not available to the public, these senators sold stock in companies they had invested in, and thus saving themselves from the significant losses experienced by the rest of us.
if these reports are true, they should lose their senate seat, be prosecuted, lose all unlawful gains and go to jail.

Politicians are at the bottom of the list for job respect. Justifiably so.

Look, Goldman sees a V shaped recovery with 3,200 S&P by 2021. Banking on their models.
