VLTs

Post by 2royals »

I was browsing thru a new video poker book in Borders when to my surprise I found out the racinos, which I frequent in NYS because I live in northern NJ, have Video Lottery Terminals as opposed to RNGs. Does anyone know how this affects video poker play? I would never go again if I found out the odds are better in casinos while playing virtually the same games.

From what I have read, VLT are like one arm bandits and lottery tickets at your neighborhood convience store. The results are determined before you actually decide which cards to hold.

I have played VLTS, in NYS OTB, when they were on the Network; controlled by a central superserver and when they were off the Network; stand alone, like a RNG Vagas style machine with no appreciable difference, short term.  Long term I can't say as I bounce around various VP machines looking for a short term run up. As the responder above mentioned, they are based upon a given set of prizes for a set periond of time.  Nobody knows what that period of time is.  This is the only way NYS can get around the State Constitution banning slot machines!  The Indian Casinos in the state are not bound by the same regulations and are true Vagas style RNG machines.

By chance, was the book "The Video Poker Edge" by Linda Boyd?  If so, and you just browsed and didn't buy, I'd recommend that you do.  Good all-around book, and it has a section on VLTs.

Ms. Boyd is a member of this forum but does not post often; you're right...good book.

Good!  I've got quite a library and it's one of my favorites.

The"VP" machines at Racinos are set to pay 92%. There is an article at the website of Albany Law School that exposes this fact. I won a royal before I knew the truth. Just Lucky.

If you want write, husband flash. He wants all to know the facts.
