Get Well Soon - Recovering Mode

Post by Lucky Larry »

Wife and I have been suffering from "nohititus" since late January. Symptoms have included mood swings, emotional instability, irritability, anxiety, loss of appetite, over eating, as well as loss of G function. We tried all the recommended remedies - more practice, rabbit's foot, more frequent trips, less frequent trips, and even alternative activities. We even thought about needlepoint or painting the house. So this past weekend we took a long planned trip to the other casino in Lake Charles – L”Auberge du lac. We love going there, great rooms, lazy river, great 99% returns on $ VP but lousy play on 25¢/50¢ games and ever worse 5¢ multi-hand which is at the bar with drinks spilled all over them.

Saturday night we play 3-5 play 25¢ pooling our money to be able to play longer. Between two different machines hits included: 4 – 4 Aces; dealt straight flush on five hands; twice 5 X pay holding 2 jacks led to a quad @ 5 times; and moving to dollars 4 aces. Tons of 4 OAKS but still no RF and no AWAK.

Sunday was basically a draw as we played separately but hit more 4 Aces and 4 OAKS including 4 & 3 with kickers back to back enough to keep us in the game. Luck prevailed as on my last hand before losing my allotment early I was dealt 4 aces to give me 4 more hours of play and a good night. Still no RF or AWAK.

Monday morning we commit to just 100 each then we go home with money. We play and discuss the incredible hits but no 4 deuces, RF, or AWAKs.   Down to half my money playing only three of five hands DDB when I’m dealt 3 Aces: we pray!   2 hands hit 4 aces; one hand AWAK.    Wife is down to 20 so I give her 100 and suggest she moves to 50¢ since quarters are cold. Fifth hand the RF hits on JOB.   I then miss a RF twice being dealt 4 RF on 5 play but can’t complain. We didn’t even stop for lunch, who needs to eat when you are in recuperation mode. We move to dollar VP and play the rest of the day with more hits and money for our Utah vacation that stuck us with a three-day flight layover in Vegas at Red Rock.

Gosh it feels good to get over an illness. We almost feel back to normal.

Congratulations.  You seem to be recovering nicely.

Share your secrets!  What did you do differently?  Cranberry juice instead of OJ?  Rabbit's foot in different pocket?

Keep up the "getting well"....

mightwin,
Thanks for the comments. We were almost to "code blue" we couldn't buy a hit. Sometimes I wasn't sure I was even drawing two cards of the same color much less a RF. We were over a dozen RFs by this time last year. Maybe just a celebration for my first new grandson born last week and lots of positive thoughts. Or maybe it just ran its course. Hopefully, we have an immunity for a while.

I too have been ill with this same sickness... seems like for a year.  I have only had 2 winning sessions this year over about a 20 session total.  Never seen so many bad hands....  Thinking of quitting but man it is hard!!!  I love and can afford to play but I never expected to lose so much so often...  I really think sometimes the machines are rigged ( i know pay table blah blah blah) but if you think about it,  its possible.  I have a friend who swears her odds always go up when she removes her players card or doesn't put it in to begin with.  I know that statement will stir up some heat but I bet there are those who will agree.Dan

What ever your friend believes is what she should follow.  Why does she even have a Players Card though?  It is true, people have been sentenced to prison on circumstantial evidence.
Oh ,and as far as rigging goes, yes it is possible.

Our problem is that last year spoiled us. We hit 29 combined RF's for the year. By this time last year we had an even dozen and were averaging 2/month and we usually go 1-2 times per month. Last year our hits gave us the money to go and play consistently. This year we hit two RF in January and didn't hit again until mid April and finally again this past week. With no or few hits its hard to keep going. Our G - account has declined like our stock market account. Maybe like the stock market the hits will/are coming back. I know we have practiced harder than ever before and we are playing together versus separate most of the time to conserve our money.

In a state (regulated) casino, that would be illegal.

But let's run with that scenario as a thought experiment.   If I was a casino manager, my concern would be the dollars coming out of machines, not whether there happens to be a card in at the time.  If I had some effective chicanery in place to penalize players with cards, why would I not simply extend it to all play?

I'd also keep comps up for players using cards as an incentive to keep coming back, knowing that I'd get the money back through lower payouts.  Yet all those comps continue to drop...

yes, they sure are! last time I was in vegas, my host told me she would not be comping a massage for me, I had to ask multiple times for my daily food credit (when before it was offered to me) and the hotel is no longer picking up tips in the restaurants where as before they always did.

I think many people gets the feeling the machines are rigged when they are going through a bad spell. Oddly enough many of these same people think it's normal when they are winning. I've never heard an explanation of how the casinos could stay in business if normal was everyone winning.

I had a person ask me just the other day if I always played with my card inserted. I answered positively with a remark about not cheating myself out of money. I think they were a little surprised and I doubt they will change their method of play.

shadowman,
We have friends and see people all the time who play without their cards or who play high stakes frequently (100 play nickels) without a card. Imagine playing $25/hand for hours without the comps to help make up the house advantage. I can understand new players not understanding the comp returns and offers from card play, but many times these are regular players.

Even if we are just stopping at a casino for an hour or two while traveling we sign up for a card. Some give same day cash back or we may get a free meal to help pay for the trip. Or just a new T-shirt to wear while doing yard work.

Unless there is a special promotional, my wife and I take turns staying/playing on each other's cards to increase the cash back and average daily play. But it is impossible to convince our son-in-law to do the same thing.
