farmer1,
Thanks for the update. Sounds like some great hits and an awesome time for you and the better half. You certainly made a great choice by going to Red Rock and the Palms.

farmer1, Thanks for your trip report! We returned from Vegas at 5:00 AM today and caught three hours of sleep on the plane. We had a fun trip but hardly worth starting a new post! Alas, my best at 12 casinos was dealt deuces on loose deuces at LV Hilton, $625., exactly where Eduardo and Ed suggested playing. At the last row at the Sports Book in the back of the casino. Thanks to those who raved about Red Rock. It is one beautiful place! There are some 12 movie theaters, bowling alley, great pool, restaurants, food court and sensational, spacious design. I suspect we will be staying there a few nights on our next trip! There are several shuttles to Fashion Show Mall on the strip each day from Red Rock.

The terrorist who failed with his bomb efforts on Christmas day, as the Delta-Northwest plane originating in the Netherlands circled Detroit Metro, pleaded not guilty at his hearing. He was in pain and on pain killers at his hearing and probably will face life. We expected additional security measures at Detroit Metro and we got it. After my husband and I and our belongings cleared the metal detectors, we were patted down. We were told to stretch our arms out at our sides at shoulder level. To avoid private messages from forum readers, a male attendant checked out my husband while a gal frisked me. This was very brief and no biggie. It is all designed to make travel safer for us. She quickly located my flat, nylon passport holder containing $1K on a cord around my neck. This was hidden under my sweater and jacket. This was probably a first for both of us although I have used that holder for 15 years. She said we would be discrete and asked me to lift that holder. She then tickled my tummy with her latex? gloves. Great, she is protected from germs but we are exposed to germs of everyone else flying before us that day! I noticed nothing different re security when boarding our homeward flight in Vegas. However, my husband was frisked because of his bulky sweater. One son travels often on business and has been frisked several times. Both flights were almost full and air line personnel requested people to volunteer to have their carry on luggage checked at the gate. There simply was not enough room in the overhead bins for all the luggage on those flights. This was so much easier for us not to have to tote our luggage on to the plane and all over the airport when we landed! Our luggage arrived at the baggage claim mere minutes after we found our way there. We noticed American is now charging $20 for the first checked bag, $30 for the second and $50 for international checked luggage. We want those good old days back!

ONE THING I SHOULD MENTION WE LEFT CAESERS AT 11:00 AM VIA CAB AND HAD OUR BAGS CHECKED THRU SECURITY AND WALKONG TO OUR GATES BY 11:30 NO ONE AT BAGGAGE (SOUTHWEST) AND AOUT 2 OTHER PEOPLE AT SECURITY GATE. THIS WAS A FIRST, HAD I KNOWN I COULD HAVE LOST AND OR WON MORE AT CAESERS. GLAD YOU HAD A GOOD TIME MARIE, WE REALLY LIKED THE BUFFET AT RR.

farmer1 , You were correct to arrive at the airport early. Two hours before flight time seems standard. After that Christmas day incident, Metro announced passengers must arrive FOUR hours before their flight time due to additional security measures! This order was soon rescinded because of the intense traffic problems and lines of passengers from the parking lot to the airport arriving for their respective flights during that four hour span. Spirit likes to charge extra for passengers to sit together when they order tickets on line. We paid extra one time and could have had our choice of empty rows of seats on the return flight. This trip there was no problem getting to sit together without paying that extra fee. If it ever happened that we were separated by seats on a flight, we feel an attendant might be able to juggle passengers so we could sit together. However, this seating situation is another reason to show up two hours before flight time.

A few years ago, while going through the screening process, I told the TSA employee to change his gloves before he put them inside my shoes. He had already screened over a 100 people by running his gloved hands on the soles of 199 shoes, and insert his hand inside the shoes as well. After being told that I should mind my own business, I requested a Supervisor, and withheld my shoes from inspection until one arrived. At this point the line had grown to about 30 people. In no time at all a Supervisor arrived along with several police officers who I imagine expected real trouble. I calmly indicated that should his charge stick his hands inside my shoes with those "nasty" gloves, they would be buying me a brand new pair. I simply asked the Supervisor if he would allow his shoes to be inspected with those "nasty" gloves. Whereupon, he sent his charge to get another pair of gloves. A short time later, he returned with clean new gloves, the inspection was completed and I was on my way. As I retrieved my shoes, I overheard the little ole lady behind me tell the Supervisor in a firm voice, "they best be putting on some clean gloves for my shoes too". Followed by a chorus me too's all the way down the line.I do appreciate the job the TSA does, just don't stick your nasty hands in my shoes or touch my person without putting on a fresh new pair of gloves. Happy Flying,CK

OMG, TY CK! LMAO! A fellow germaphobe (?) with validity! I tried really hard NOT to include that portion in my post but could not resist. This happened in seconds and I had no time to think otherwise. This frisking at the airport was a first for me. Someone asked if that frisking was random and it appeared every individual after us was also being frisked. It happened that no one was going through in front of us so I did not see it coming or I probably would have stashed my cash in my purse. I may never fly to Vegas again, since I had such a losing time there. It was still a fun trip. No one has ever touched my shoes at the airport. It's amazing that I swim every day because I am aware of several nasties that can be transmitted by feet in the locker/pool rooms. I have heard of athletes foot, plantars warts, toe nail fungus and poison ivy that could be transfered by feet in locker rooms. These are nothing any of us really want to contend with! I need not hear of any others, thank you. While on juicy subject matter, I saw a guy in a Vegas buffet sneeze into his hand. I was SO glad I had already gone through that food line so I did not have to handle the serving spoons AFTER he did. But what about all those others before me. Sticking to restaurants would not eliminate that problem. When restaurant workers get sick, probably from customers germs, they are almost forced to report to work to keep their jobs. It's amazing some of us even venture out of our homes. lol I'm just trying to stay healthy and keep away from Doctors offices/hospitals where germs party!
