Dream Card Not So Dreamy

Post by Lucky Larry »

Just got back from our local where Dream Card, Good Times Pay and Ultimate X were installed just last week. The Slot Directors secretary even called us to tell us they were in and running.   We have waited with much anticipation for Dream Card since November. Practiced regularly to be ready. So we hit the VP area and Dream Card is ready for us. What is this @#%* !      Yeah we have dream card with a 7-5 JOB (96.5% DC) pay table.

This is a full percent lower than the regular 25¢ play on the single hand machines. Now we know the Slot Director hates VP (he has told us this in person) but we had been so excited. Played a $100 and kissed DC good bye! We'll wait till we get to Red Rock. Didn't even try GTP because it was just as low.

But wait! This wasn't all the great news! Before we could even get to DC the regulars stopped us to tell us the news. The 99% multi-hand 5¢ play had at the same time been dropped 1-2% and the some of the 50¢ VP as much as 2% lower. The whole VP gang of regulars were furious.    A regular (truck driver whose route brings him to Lake Charles weekly) who plays $25/hand 100 play was so upset he told the host he wouldn't be back. This guy brings a sack lunch and plays 12-14-16 hours at a stretch and between $2000-3000 per session until he gets the big hit or runs out of money. He has some big hits and averages $90-100K in G statements a year. He decided to give DC a try after I told him about it and because he was so mad about the nickels he played DC deuces wild (5 play $12.50 hand) for 16 hours that night and morning. I saw him dealt 4 deuces on DC and he had over 21 quad deuces by the time I left him at 3 a.m. and he still lost money playing 95% DC deuces wild he told me the next day.

Host and techs said the slot director was complaining about not making money on VP and he need more money for his "newest big multi-player slots".   So who is going pay... the VP players.

The only thing Lake Charles IOC had going for it in VP was higher odds than the new fancy Lauberge du Lac across the river. New fancy Vegas style casino, console machines with adjustable cushioned chairs, with clean air, great rooms, lazy river pool area, swim up bar, etc. or old smokey, upright machines with knee knocker (coin trays) moldy rooms, with tiny pool?   When will they learn.

Larry,

Quite simply, they'll learn when everyone stops playing money through these crappy pay table machines. Sorry to hear how badly your expectations were let down. The games at Red Rock had some very good pay tables. Hope you get to play them soon.

Of course, this probably means that when these new machines don't get played, the slot director will think it's simply the new games, not the horrible pay tables they are offering them at. So not making money on these machines will be a self fulfilling propecy.

Eduardo,
I fully envision that will be his reaction. Hey, this guys didn't even know that people could check the pay tables when we first met him. We have since learned he was fired as Harrah's New Orleans slot director several years ago. He only knows VP has a lower house edge. This in-spite of the fact we showed him the house edge is in the same areas as the table games. We even showed him data on how most VP players don't play anywhere near 100% efficiency. Doesn't matter.   So, we just sent a letter to the new general manager who is a VP player and the new marketing director concerning the lowered pay tables and the ridiculously low pay table on Dream Card/Good Times Pay. Hope someone listens.

damule,
Thanks, we were talking to Red Rock today about coming out soon. Our long time host John Trovato is no longer there so we contacted a new host. Ms. L and I have discussed we can fly SWA from Houston to Vegas for what we play on one trip to La. so if we stay home a few more times we can make a good RR run every few months. We talked about whether we could go "cold turkey" and keep from going to the La. turkey! We may be looking for recipes for crow!
