I get the contest reminder via email. Where is the actual start date posted?

Contests aren't usually announced too far in advance... a lot of factors determine when a contest will run. Your best bet is to check here in the forum. Since you get the reminder emails, you shouldn't miss out either.The next one will probably begin this Friday.
